"Jaws" came out in 1975. It all tracks that there might be a shark trope in a Bond film, like there was an "outer space" trope in a Bond film post-"Star Wars" and "Close Encounters...", i.e., "Moonraker". (I finished reading Ian Fleming's "Moonraker" about a week ago. It floors me how different the novel is from the movie that came out in 1979.)

Sean Connery not only starred in “Never Say Never Again,” he served as an uncredited co-producer. Part of the deal was, he had final say over the script and casting. Director Irvin Kershner said Connery was the creative glue that held the production together. Connery’s wife contributed the title (and is cited in the end credits). For this old Bond fan, the result was worth the wait, superior to the tedious, dragged out “Thunderball.” It was also way above its 1983 competitor, “Octopussy.” I don’t believe that “Warhead” would have been as campy as you describe; certainly not with the involvement of Connery or Len Deighton. As with “Never Say Never Again,” Connery was determined to avoid the Roger Moore style.

I read McClory was going to do a second Thunderball remake with Sont around 2000 with Timothy Dalton returning as Bond and i believe Liam Neeson who was considered for Goldeneye playing the villain. The rumored title was Warhead 2000 AD.

correction in Never say Never Again while Bond is out Diving with Fatima he is attacked by a shark which can been seen to have a remote control receiver operating the homing device on its dorcel fin ..
