This is one of the best James Bond movies. Dalton and Lazemby's performance was underrated due to the cult of fans to Sean Connery and Roger Moore. The closing music of this film played by The Pretenders & Chrisse Hynde "If There Was A Man" is beautiful.

If only Lazenby had stayed. Roger Moore was iconic. Roger Moore and Pierce Bronson, looked best in suits.
@grahamcook9289Ай бұрын
Roger Moore stank as Bond in particular and as an actor in general. He was the definition of wooden acting. Lazenby wasn't an actor, but got away with it as OHMSS is easily far and away the best Bond film from story, to supporting cast and music.

The BEST Bond song - it sums him up; lonely, sad, beautiful. Bond's 'facade' was 'martinis, girls, guns and cars'. It made for entertaining scenes, but at his core, Bond was a contract spy & killer with a cold demeanour. He lived a dangerous, transient life with no permanent ties. This song best reflects his real emptiness and sadness. Dalton delivered Fleming's vision well, perhaps too well. Barry's melody is majestic, haunting and nostalgic. Chrissie's vocal is emotional and compelling, its lyrics relating the inner sadness of the character. It's not a 'hot top 40' pop song; no, it's just the truth.

I believe Peirce Brosnan had the role, but couldn't get out of contract until season end of Remington Steele, so suggested they let Timothy Dalton step in, and he would then do the next film. As things went, Pierce's wife came down with cancer, and he ended up spending his time with her until losing her, and so again Timothy stepped into the role, to keep the contract for him, but from what I've read, Dalton didn't want the role, and felt it would restrict his carreer, only stepping in to help Peirce Brosnan keep the contract, as he was the one that really wanted it.

@christhornycroft36862 жыл бұрын
Honestly, if they were going with the revenge plot for License to Kill, bringing back The Pretenders to do the theme would have made a lot more sense than getting a gospel/soul singer to sing a ballad that has nothing to do with the plot of the movie. I know artists are one and done in the Bond franchise, but they could have made an exception for LTC. It have been a total 80s dark hard rock banger with a rising, tragic yet angry guitar solo, but instead they went with something completely out of left field. Gladys Knight is a great singer, but she would have fit Roger Moore's personality more than Dalton's. The song doesn't fit the tone of the movie at all, and that's a fatal flaw of some Bond films - tonal inconsistency. But The Pretenders was a perfect choice for James Bond. When I think of the music of the franchise, I think of the early themes, Paul McCartney, and the Pretenders.
