James Brown - Hot Pants (Part 1, 2 & 3) [Complete single version] (1971)
This complete single version (here 6'56'') is mixed by myself, with Audacity. I only lost 5 sec., not more as you would expect, because there's a small repetition of Pt 1 on the beginning of Pt 2.
I've checked the discography of James Brown but did not find an album (streaming service, cd or vinyl) where the single version appears on as one piece. So this is a unique opportunity :-)
I myself, I prefer this single version over the album version because it has a slower tempo. I'll post the album version also, so you can check out for yourself.

I believe this was the first hit with Fred Thomas as his bassist, he came very shortly after Bootsy was gone from James after the Olympia concerts in spring 1971, JB hires a new horn section with a few of his standard players like Fred Wesley and St Clair Pinckney. They were a lot smoother in their sound than JB’s earlier incarnation of the JBs which Bootsy and his brother played in, but they were still hot and funky really drivin’ the one on this song. What amazes me is that Fred Thomas was the smoothest bassist he had after Bootsy and still knew how to groove and funk it, James never lost a beat!
@mrstep2me
@mrstep2me 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, Fred and St. Clair came back while Bootsy and Phelps were still there. You can see them on the France, and Italy videos from early 1971. I think Get Involved was the last track before they came back. Maceo didn't come back until The Payback.

The Man just followed the K.I.S.S. rule: guitars, bass, drums, that second-to-none horn section, and him frontin'. DONE.

Bootsy, Catfish, and Kash holding down the groove from Cincinnati all the way...to Augusta, GA! Doin' it on the one. Although they had left the band, their influence shaped every thing else he recorded from here on out. Man what a great era for soul and R&B.👑🎸🎵

Bootsy and company were gone when they did this. This was the first song they did after they left. I remember James commenting that this band could hardly play, but that he was able to get this out of them.
