By far the very best version of this tune. Recorded "live" in the studio after JB wrote the words on a program booklet in Nashville, Tn. after a show there. I saw him do this many times. This by far the best. I know every word, pause and beat. "we just travelling"....

Actually this song was originally written by Bootsy Collins, his brother and others they were jamming in the dressing room rehearsing when James walked in and heard them he wrote the lyrics but he never gave credit to Bootsy and the band,JB also never gave Bobby Byrd writers creid on a lot of songs that he and and Bobby wrote and sang on as well.

I read he and Bobby Byrd wrote the song while riding the tour bus . It appears Byrd didn't make a dime off it. Who knows?

A clever studio trick but this version is his best and can be played on repeat for ever. Awesome

Man, I wish I could find this album. My copy is so scratched it's almost worthless. This has the best version of Give it Up or Turn it Loose.

The version of 'give it up' on this lp is incredible

Great groove, but everybody knows that this is not live! You hear audience noise at the beginning and nothing during the performance. The key element here is the bass. Bootsy Collins is so groovy, Miles Davis got him to play the bass on his most groovy records from the early 1970s
