That guy is Danny Raye who was with Mr. Brown as chief MC and other duties since about 1960. He worked for him until Mr. Brown passed away in 2006.

At 1:39, that crowd had no idea they were listening to the future. A Hip Hop break before it was invented. Mr. John Ja'bo Starks on drums with that signature snare sound heard on so many rap records and the great Jimmy Nolen on guitar. Fred Thomas on bass. Probably the most sampled bass player in the world.

I hope Magic Johnson understands the importance of releasing all of the classic Soul Train performances like this. I can't imagine what it would mean if they were lost forever. Many of us lived Saturday after Saturday with performances such as this.....
