The making of the first Terminator is incredible story in itself, they shot the movie without permits to the places in guerrilla style, Cameron just prepped by himself studying and then pretty much just making a movie. Brilliant choices made like they looked for certain kinda streets to shot, because there was at the time used these certain kinda lamps that made the blueish hue to the many of the shots. Tons of little details like that which makes the movie creditable with it's budget and so the little they had could be mostly used for the couple big set-pieces. Just the casting of Arnold was so smart choice even tho it wasn't a thing to cast someone with such heavy accent to any movie (still really isn't).

Don't get me wrong, I loved Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, pretty much all of Cameron's oeuvre, but I wish he'd just admit that his inspiration for Terminator was from reading X-Men comics. He lifted the idea from the 'Days of Future Past' (Uncanny X-Men 141-142) storyline then even lifted the concept of living metal being frozen by liquid nitrogen (Uncanny X-Men 177). He's got talent, I just wish he'd admit that he was just following the old adage 'talent borrows, genius steals.'
@ECLECTRIC_EDITS
@ECLECTRIC_EDITS 6 ай бұрын
He didnt. If anything he was influenced by Harlan Ellisons Outer Limits episode: Soldier. Besides, I think re-interpretation is always okay as long as new novel and creative concepts are introduced and influenced by what came before.
@erikfldt390
@erikfldt390 6 ай бұрын
@@ECLECTRIC_EDITS Cameron himself said he absolutely didn't steal the idea from Ellison and denied any inspiration, maybe that was to avoid a lawsuit, but sure, maybe he did find inspiration from that. Even if that's the case, there's too much a coincidence that he stole two very pivotal concepts from X-Men storylines and he himself admitted he was an avid comic reader.

tell me you haven't read "demon with a glass hand" without telling me you haven't read demon with a glass hand. the two stories have as much in common as Back to the Future has with HG Wells "The Time Machine". Cameron was a new comer in Hollywood - this was literally his first film and he sold the script for a dollar in exchange for the chance to direct it. He took the easy way out by not fighting the lawsuit - something that he probably regrets to this day.

No he didn't. Terminator was unique and original. Harlan Ellison was a serial litigant - the studio caved - Cameron wanted to fight the suit. Imagine you write a story about someone in the future, using time travel to go back to change history - and then you claim that every story that does the same, is ripping you off. Ridiculous!

1. Ok NO admittedly Aliens was not Cameroon's original idea, but was created by two other sci fi writers (whose names escape me at the moment). But Aliens is a far scarier film than the first one. And it's still a great film. 2. The Terminator plots-a guy pursueing a villain through through time had been done before (Dracula A.D. 1972 (there was no time travel in that one but the same sort of concept), Time After Time, an Outer Limits episode-but Terminator is great film

At one point Cameroon considered a Spider-Man film starring Micheal Biehn as the hero and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the villain (the two of them have great chemistry). The first issue is that Micheal Biehn was too old to play Spider-Man (the character is like 17 in high school).
