And if the entirety of your efforts to get to know and court others fails in person and means you “have to” turn to online attention and can’t use the typical pathways there, it’s awfully suspicious in many ways. Grooming is the disgusting outcome, but the reality is that this is someone that people don’t get to know and see as a potential partner for their friends and loved ones. People don’t meet him and use the opportunity to get to know him more intimately unless it’s social climbing or parasocial. As an adult who was groomed and assaulted as a child, who has gone through so much therapy for abusive patterns coming from family and their ongoing issues, and who knows intimately how these things go - he’s not sending up red flags, he’s sending out jarring, massive flashing blue and red lights. This is an adult man that “has to” turn to forms of communication that adults use only sparingly in comparison to teenagers to get sexual attention? Creepy in ways that suggest why he’s unsafe to date overall.

I do however think it is a good way to refer to something happening that you are not informed about yet. I was sexually taken advantage of by an older man on the internet when I was a young teen. He wasn't a celebrity, he was just someone I was friendly with, and I can't even describe the pressure I felt to stay in that relationship and the terror that came from finally leaving. I was in one of the worst mental spaces I'd ever expected. I cannot even imagine how I would have felt if that man was also a global celebrity. What James did was too horrible for words and it disgusts me that he's still out there "having friends over and playing Mario and mine craft" or what have you. He should be in jail. I'm so sorry to the survivors of his abuse, and I hope they're in a better place mentally and physically, and I hope that they have genuine, loving relationships with friends and family to fall back on for comfort and support. All of you young men are so strong and wonderful, and you deserve so much better. Be safe and be well.

I was going to say that he should check himself into a psychs office (I did similar shit when I was 18 with a 17 year old but took responsibility and cut contact after only a couple months), I decided to get help by self reporting and talking about my feelings and concerning behaviours with the relevant authorities.
