Great analysis, although I couldn't help but notice that you didn't go into their blocking abilities. Le'veon Bell is often considered the best blocking RB in the NFL. PFF sampled 21 of his games where he allowed 3 sacks on 119 pass-blocks, which is incredible. I haven't seen much of Conner's pass-blocking, so I can't say for sure how good he is at it, but I would be surprised if at his size, he were anywhere near Bell's ability. Not sure how important pass-blocking ability is in RB's, but I always appreciated how insanely well-rounded Bell's game is. Being at the top at his position in ball security, route running, and blocking is very impressive. Also worth mentioning is how he is able to maintain great efficiency despite his high usage, where a lesser runningback would drop off far more significantly.
@SamuelGoldNFL6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I ran out of time for that discussion. Per PFF, Conner has 8 pressures on 73 pass block snaps in 2018 while Bell had 3 pressures on 73 pass block snaps in 2016. So this fits in the narrative that Bell is the better pass blocker.
@cardiboy056 жыл бұрын
Although Conner isn't as good as bell on pass blocking he is still phenomenal. That was his big weakness coming in this year and he has dramatically improved on picking up blitzes.

@@kobekeomany3971 Well the premise is, much like many of the backstabbing steelers fans, like bell is some kind of system back and anyone can do well, and their main focus of that is Williams, which like I said, an exceptionally skilled back, which negates his point. I showed he had the numbers to prove it. They bring up Williams real quick, but let me list all the running backs they have had that no one brings up, well at least since Bell was drafted; Baron Batch #35, #20 Ben Tate #34 Chad Spann #30 Chris Rainey #22 DeAngelo Williams #34 Dri Archer #13 Felix Jones #23 Fitzgerald Toussaint #33 Isaac Redman #33 James Conner #30 Jaylen Samuels #38 John Clay #38 Jonathan Dwyer #27 Jordan Todman #30 Josh Harris #40 LaRod Stephens-Howling #34 Le'Veon Bell #26 Mewelde Moore #21 Rashard Mendenhall #34 Roosevelt Nix #45 Stevan Ridley #38, #22 Will Johnson #46 Plenty have been in that "system" and have failed at producing.

Chris Hiss if deangelo williams is so good where is he now? He was old with injury issues he had to retire AGAIN. If im not mistaken Carolina didn't resign him for a reason. The system and the OL is the reason for the running back success and the running backs that you named most of them were 2nd stringers. Their running style didn't fit with the Steelers (meaning they aren't good since they arguably have had a top 5 or 10 OL every year with Big Ben). It also helps the running backs to have some of the best WR core like AB, JUJU and Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Mike Wallace or Emmanuel Sanders the next year. I mean the list goes on and I didnt even name Plaxico Burress
@chris_hisss5 жыл бұрын
@@RandomGamer504 Reason he left was James Stewart. Another one injury prone back, but drafted after him, that he had shared time with. And don't act like older backs that were great in their prime or had significant time off, even if from injury can't come back late into their 30s. But did you even watch this video? He literally spells it out why Bell is much more than a system back, and you just don't get it.

Bell is just a better overall back. He an elite runner that can run with speed, efficiency and power, elite route runner for the position, and by far the best pass protector in the league. @mlee815 жыл бұрын
Disagree on performance. Bell has been replaced successfully. I don't see a lack of production in the offense. Ben just needs to stop forcing throws to AB. The Steelers saved themselves immensely in cap space, which they can now use to pay a premier pass rusher or secondary player in free agency. Wishing the best for Bell. No hard feelings. He needs a good line to run behind though. Someone will overpay him

You won't find it. I stated that the Steeler's offense has not skipped a beat without Le'veon Bell. The issue has been the Steeler's defense inconsistent play, a poor kicker, and a QB that at times wants to throw to the wrong team at critical times. The Steelers have a bargain deal at 17 times less the cost than Le'veon Bell. Put that money into a premier pass rusher or top secondary player available in free agency. >> Letter to Rooney's. Bell is so good, but the Steelers don't need him. Their lines is criminally underrated in the run game, and Conner is great at what they ask him to do. That added dimension Bell brings us great, but they also have talent outside to dominate in the passing game. Bell will go and get paid but it probably won't be with a contender tbh. He should really piss them off and go to Baltimore, I think they're the only ones not settled at tailback. Collins is ok, but they're not building around his skills. Plus Leveon could help the kid out turning check downs into big plays. He's still timid going deep even though he has more than enough arm for it.

The difference between the 2 is the effect it's had on Antonio Brown's production.
@nineblowe5 жыл бұрын
Ask Antonio how much do he miss Le'Veon? It's quite obvious that Antonio's numbers are dramatically lower because the secondary can commit an extra man on him. This now allows JuJu to get those one on one matchups. But the Defensive Coordinators don't fear the Steelers run game this year. Look at where they are ranked 23rd in the NFL? Connor is a good back but he doesn't give Defensive players or Coordinators fits game planning for him. That's why Ben is pass happy throwing crazy red zone interceptions, and Antonio has 3 guys all over him. With Le'veon Bell lined up in the backfield you wouldn't be doing this to your second level on defense. I'm a Steelers fan since my childhood in the 70's and I tell you that this is the biggest mistake since letting Rod Woodson & Kevin Greene go to other teams. I'm so pissed off with the organization now. And the Steelers' performance in the last 3 games are a result of playing without the best back in the game. Ben is pressing, not relying on the run game to keep the defense honest. Connor has the tendency to drop balls and fumbles in critical situations, and Antonio becomes non existent in crunch time. Now the defense is getting exposed as an average group again because the offense without Bell isn't establishing the run. Hell last Sunday night at home with a 16 point lead the Chargers would've had nightmares of number 26 coming at them in so many ways. Great blocker, route runner, pass catcher, holds onto the ball, great runner, and a clock killer resting your defense too.

i think it's hard to compare because the steelers have given up on the run early for no reason in so many games this season. They're treating Conner like a backup even though he's clearly not at this point, and they seem to keep losing when they lean too heavily on the passing game and don't let the run game beat up the defense enough. Of course he's going to play worse in those games because running backs can't get into rhythm when they only run ~10 times throughout the whole game. It's just bad coaching.

RB's are worth more per $ than offensive lineman. If you credit 2.5 yds/carry for example to an O line and average that out amongst 5 players thats 0.5yds per player. Whereas if you have a RB credited with 2yds/carry that is 4x higher. Yes pass protection counts also but the skill disparity between a O-linemans blocking skills is much smaller than a running backs blocking skills. And its often time the RB that has to pick up the extra blitzer to prevent a sack. Im not saying a good O-line isnt important because it can make a world of difference but if you're penny pinching i think its more valuable to prioritize a RB over one O-lineman. Even the worst and cheapest O-lineman in the game win at least 85% of their snaps. A good running back can often turn a 5 yard gain into a 10 yard gain, which over a long period of time will destroy any defense. And if you get a RB that can catch you can add a whole new dynamic to an offense, time and time again I've seen defenses struggle to scheme against a good receiving running back.

Conner is 90% of Bell at 17 times the cost. I’ll take Conner all day everyday over a locker room cancer who wants to be overpaid
@redkillgunmemes4626 жыл бұрын
I'm a huge steelers fan, hes been one of my favorites for years but now I really dont like his attitude, he is already getting paid way more than most players and he just left his team out in the cold
@Jeremydaemonnnn12336 жыл бұрын
LetsGetWilly Conner also has stellar receiving skills. The RB group’s production hasn’t fallen off a cliff in general, over the past few games Conner has slowed down however even if he’s supposedly 70% of what Bell is at a lower price. Why I think it was absolutely braindead for Pittsburgh to offer anything close to $14M/5 years for a RB is because he’s not the focal point of the offense, Ben and AB are. Wherever Bell decides to go next year, he won’t have Ben/AB/JuJu and 3 pro bowl caliber linemen blocking for him. Bell is a fantastic player but there’s no way in hell im paying him what he wants. Gurley makes $15M and the Rams offense runs through him
@jeremyconley16165 жыл бұрын
Look , skill wise , Bell is just better , no matter how much more you like Connor because of his personality (better than bell ) if you want to win games bell would help more . And since you Steelers fans stay talking shit about bell and forget about all he’s done for y’all , when he goes to a new team you’ll realize his talent.
@thetattedpilot5 жыл бұрын
Dj Allworld oh boy imagine Bell in a Chiefs uniform how scary would that be? I’m a Steelers fan bell is my favorite player and I hate the way the threw him under the bus it was shameful. The Steelers are going to pay in a major way. He’s going to go to a team that plays Pittsburgh on a consistent basis
@rileyEscobar115 жыл бұрын
You always leave out the reason that sets the player apart Bell is a great pass blocker (you did the same with Gurley, saying that some of his yards should go to the Oline BUT neglected to do the same for the QBS)
@88sportstalk5 жыл бұрын
Leveon bell is a different monster and you can line him up anywhere and you will probably be in the playoffs instead of at home that's the difference
@t.k.13194 жыл бұрын
Bell sat out all of 2018 and didn’t do much in the jets in 2019. It doesn’t seem like Adam Gase likes the deal that was signed, nor does it seem like he has much chemistry in their scheme. Are the jets going to keep paying this mega contract in 2020 or cut bait?

One question: how do you measure the o line yard measure?
@SamuelGoldNFL5 жыл бұрын
It's done on a snap-by-snap basis. I go though every play looking at the play design, blocking assignments, and look at the RBs reads given the situation to determine what he's supposed to do based on the correct read.

James Conner is a 235 pound horse who runs a 4.6 40 which isn't found a lot especially when you factor in that he plays around 240-248. He's ultimately harder to bring down & quicker than fast. Bell is a beast, but Conner is like watching a back from the 70s-80s, ala Earl Campbell
@justinsullivan58395 жыл бұрын
Matthias Schwalbach Bell is better. Defenses fear Bell more than Conner. And Bell is simply better. Better blocker, receiver and runner. Conner is a good young back. Just not as good. And with his running style, I’ll be surprised if hes effective past age 30.

Matthias Schwalbach not at all. When your first instinct is to run through the defender instead of make him miss - those are the backs who don’t last long.

I wouldn’t count out the Steelers from signing Bell in the off-season just yet. While it’s likely he gets a big payday from another team, if he for some reason doesn’t get as much as what the Steelers offered him I’d expect them to transition tag him
