James got his OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), for his services to drama. I don't know if he has ever met the queen but she did not personally give him the medal, on his day the ceremony was performed by Princess Anne, the queen's daughter.

I like Corden, but it's not like Craig Ferguson was a horrible host. I wouldn't say he made the late late show a BILLION times better. He made his own show which is great, but what Ferguson did was also great for different reasons. Corden is a good host, Craig Ferguson was a one in a million late night host. There's never been anyone that's done the job quite like him.

***** Actually, at least in Canada, if the queen's representative were to say no to a government decision the decision would not be able to pass. It's rarely ever used, but technically "nothing can happen without her say-so", as Rick Mercer once put it. It's (in theory) used as a way to make sure the government doesn't abuse its power. Sometimes it works wonderfully, such as the time mentioned below, and other times, like with "criticizing the Israeli government in any way is now considered hate speech" bullshit, you're left sitting there and looking around going "...Hello? Power check? Anyone?" There was a time not too long ago where the conservatives wanted to call for another election because they had gotten a minority government, but now would likely win a majority, and , the queen's representative was like "Oh Hell to the no! You're not gonna waste taxpayer money like that. That's abusing your power. You'll have to wait til you lose the confidence of the queen just like everyone else. _Behave_.". And they couldn't call for a vote. All that beng said, I do love having a queen and I love that political safeguard, even if it doesn't always work; I just don't think it's fair that it's required for immigrants to swear allegiance if Canadian-born folk don't have to.

Look at the difference in the friendship between Colbert and Corden compared to Letterman and Ferguson. These two get on very well, they did sketches together, and support each other on CBS. Letterman ignored Craig Ferguson 99.9%, did not give him a proper budget, he did give Craig freedom, but other than that Letterman, who I like, was always cold to Craig. When Craig announced he was stepping down from the Late Late Show, Letterman acted as if he had no idea, and really no care for Craig's service to Late Late Show.
