the man completely redefined Jeopardy. Even Ken Jennings told the press he could not keep up with James. Holtzhauer wrecked this game. Totally destroyed it. I was SHOCKED with his performance. 100K plus in some games. He totally dominated. Ken was my Jeopardy hero...then James came along, right before this pandemic, and created a new hero. 100K a game............80 thousand a game, even 60 thousand a game. Over and over and OVER again. James is my hero. Sad he lost....I think it was deliberate. Had he continued.....he would have continued to destroy contestants.....from doctors, proefessors, lawyers, lesser professionals. Emma was s journalist, and VERY smart. But......I think James threw this one. Emma was intelligent...he should have had the victory, but....he lost.

@alexanderpytko53944 жыл бұрын
@@susanpack4784 Yeah, that's the edge James had over most contestants, he was never afraid to bet big. As a gambler he's used to it. Most contestants when they hit Daily Doubles are too afraid to bet it all or most of it because they don't want to take the chance of falling behind other contestants. James always bet most of it in final Jeopardy even in a runaway game. But he risked enough to keep him ahead even if he was wrong. As a professional gambler, he knows that the first rule of gambling is, "Don't bet more than you can afford to lose." But then again, every response you give on Jeopardy is a gamble. He also seems to go by the saying, "Go big or go home."

@MyKingdomforAdRevenue5 жыл бұрын
Yeah people might have missed it because of the contrast but Jay was actually really good too and probably could have won a Jeopardy game against more average players. He was kind of the overlooked x-factor. With 3 really good players competing, it meant that James couldn't maintain the level of board dominance he was used to and get a high chance to find the daily doubles. That's how all streaks end, eventually your luck runs out and another player gets the DDs. The reason James lasted so long was that his insane board control allowed him to find almost all of them and create runaways. Emma made the winning play going all in and was able to maintain control of the lead with it, while Jay was smart and fast enough to keep James from being able to catch up to her with normal answers. One of the fiercest games of Jeopardy ever.

Alex Trebek has no intention of doing 40 seasons, whether or not he manages to survive pancreatic cancer. All you people claiming that James must've lost on purpose are just silly. Perhaps you could benefit by looking up "Dunning-Kruger Effect". Or "Occam's Razor", because there's a simpler explanation than the idea that James was tired of getting rich, or tired of doing what he does for a living anyway. Emma played aggressively like James does, _and_ she had better luck with the Daily Doubles. (James found his too early to be able to place a large bet; then Emma found the other two, keeping James from capitalizing on them. And she bet large enough amounts on them to keep ahead of James.) And between Emma and Jay, they kept James from doing what he normally does: monopolizing the board. Due to their dollar amounts going into Final Jeopardy, James knew he couldn't win if Emma bet big and got the question right, so all he could do was to hope that she would get it wrong. In case he also got it wrong, he wanted to end up with more money than her, which he could only do with a smaller bet. And most importantly to the exact size of the bet, he wanted to ensure Jay couldn't beat him-- that either way, James would come in second at worst. And that's exactly what happened, because he bet strategically. James didn't throw the game, he just got beat, fair and square. Edited to add: I'm a huge Holzhauer fan, and I wanted to see his winning streak continue! In my mind he may be the greatest player yet, given how much he won in such a short time. The hardest thing about remaining a Jeopardy champion is, it only takes one loss for your reign to end-- and that's what happened here. I'm looking forward to seeing James in the next Tournament of Champions!
@jackson51165 жыл бұрын
yup, he had $1,400 more than twice that of Jay, meaning he was only a lock for 2nd, not first, but by only that tiny amount, which he stayed within- barely, at $1,399, the most he could wager and guarantee 2nd no matter what, and extreme luck for 1st (it was clear Emma knew her stuff, but she wasn't the only one to challenge him, look how close his 18th game was- he could have lost that very easily if he hadn't gotten the Daily Double).
@jackson51165 жыл бұрын
Also, it is very likely that he was wearing down physically, even if it's only by 0.0001 second delay, it's enough to not be as quick on the buzzer as he needs to be. People focus on the trivia aspect of Jeopardy, but completely ignore the fact that it's all about the buzzer, who can click in the fastest, and James was being beaten quite a bit more than usual during his last game- fatigue perhaps, just enough to delay his motor response?
@theR0NIN5 жыл бұрын
@@jackson5116 You're right, the buzzer is key! I think that Jay and Emma were fast enough to compete with James when it comes to that. Personally, I doubt fatigue was a factor for James, but it's possible.

Jeopardy - You need to have a week long tournament between James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings. Just a one-on-one, week-long tournament. Your ratings would go thru the roof! And each of them gets to keep ALL the money they earn, none of this $1,000, $2,000 BS.

Sure would be nice if there was a way to watch all of James' episodes. Seems you can watch old shows of almost anything, Except Jeopardy??

This makes me excited for the Tournament of Champions. Yes, it is disappointing to see James’s run end after 32 games, but if we see him again during the Tournament of Champions, it will be quite the treat. (James wins it, I’m calling it now)

I'm not much of a jeopardy fan so I've never even watched a tournament, but with James in it you know I'm damn sure gonna be there, lol.

James run on Jeopardy reminds me of a quote by Ryan Hayashi. "If you have a dream, never give up. Believing your dream, Living your dream, and doing something every day to make that dream comes true. But remember one thing. No matter who you are. No matter how hard you work. Or how good you think you are at what you do, there will always be an Asian who takes it to the next level."

I think it would have been a truly unforgettable and iconic moment if his winning streak came to an end because he failed to answer in the form of a question or didn't know who was buried in Grant's Tomb.

Besides playing against two smart individuals (Jay & Emma) in the last game, James' game plan he had followed got disrupted for him to lose. He needed to control the board and get those Daily Doubles to really be safe each game. The first question he got when he started the game where he was dethroned was a Daily Double for 1k. He was only able to bet 1k and barely benefited from it at all. He usually has anywhere from 3-7K and goes "all in" to really increase his lead. The fact that he couldn't keep the board and Emma getting those 2 Daily Doubles in the second round really hurt. Not only gaining ground, but denying James them 100%. One only gained her 3K or so, but the other made her go from $7,600 to $15,200... This 7.6K increase basically replaced what James USUALLY got in that first round Daily Double as he controlled the board. That is my theory on that specific game... Even though he was against two very bright individuals, I really think that first question Daily Double REALLY hurt him...

James was a phenomenal contestant! He always bet big, usually all of it or close to all of it. He seems to go by the rule, "Go big or go home." Most Jeopardy contestants are too cowardly to that because they don't to risk losing all of it but James isn't afraid to because he's used to it being a professional gambler and all. Plus, betting big all the time and usually being correct can intimidate your opponents causing them to lose their cool and get sloppy, giving you the advantage. Only a few weeks before James made his debut, they had the Jeopardy All-Star Tournament when they had some big champions including Roger Craig who had the highest single day winnings record of $77,000 and then during James' run on Jeopardy, he leapfrogged Roger... 15 TIMES! He made Roger's record look like NOTHING! James now holds the top 15 amounts for single day winnings. The new single day record now, held by James Holzhauer, is $131,127. I would just like to see someone try and beat that! It was sad that he didn't beat Ken Jennings' total winnings record on regular Jeopardy of $2.52 Million but he came SOOOO close! He won $2.46 Million. It was far from certain if he would break Ken's winning streak record of 74 wins but everyone was very sure he was going to break Ken's total regular Jeopardy winnings record. By that time, Jeopardy's ratings were so high that even people went to bars just to watch Jeopardy. Even people who don't normally watch Jeopardy were watching it. But the amount of money he made, he made in less than half the time it took Ken Jennings to make, that was something. Ken Jennings is a fan of James Holzhauer's and admired James' way of playing. Ken and James are the only 2 contestants to pass both the $1 Million mark and the $2 Million mark on regular Jeopardy and the only 2 contestants to win more than 20 games in a row. James is now in the top 3 in all 4 records in the Jeopardy Hall of Fame. He holds the third highest amount for total winnings(regular Jeopardy and tournaments combined), he holds the second highest winning streak record, he holds the second highest amount in total regular Jeopardy winnings, and he holds top highest amount in single day winnings of course, in fact, he holds the top 15 amounts in single day winnings. So he was a force to be reckoned with.
