In Latvia there was a period where country people made pickles at home because stores had nothing to offer. To this day a lot of people make them at home. Not every recipe is the same, but most of them taste awesome, so I would say that making things like these at home is a valuable skill. So even if it does not taste like from the store, thumbs up for the skill. Do not have anything like that here, because it sounds like the recipe comes from India or something, but we do have variations, not just whole marinated pickles, sounds like the thing we call here ''Man's Jam''.
