2:10 When valves weren't invented yet, that instrument is what was used to hit low bass notes that tubas play today. Obviously by the sound of the playing, it wasn't very useful and only lasted a very short time. Then valves came and soon after, tubas, which quickly replaced that instrument.

What is the technique he uses at 1:23 and a little before? Is he singing a low note with his throat and also playing using that air stream to play the low register on the instrument? I use a post horn and sing low notes with my throat to make the horn sound like a deep fart sound that rumbles. It creates a drone with the horn and then I can raise or lower my voice to sync in and out with the resonance. Is this a formal technique? Can somebody point me to information/ videos. about throat singing into brass instruments? And using techniques for using brass instruments as drones?
