James Nestor, author of Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art, says we can reduce - or even REVERSE - asthma, anxiety, psoriasis, and much more, all by simply changing the way we breathe. On today's episode, he and I are going to discuss how your lungs affect your weight, whether inhaling or exhaling is more important, and the role FOOD has had on our breathing (and even the shape of our skulls). We'll also discuss the breathing technique that may reduce inflammatory markers 40-fold within a matter of weeks!

the SKINNY part: 22:05. Lungs aspirate fat, but don't go out and hyperventilate. Over breathing initiates cortisol so only exercise at the rate that you can breathe thru your nose. Panting is bad. Work up to hard workouts or you're spinning your wheels as cortisol is the Fat Storing hormone.

Yes breathing properly is incredibly important. Funny comment but I played trumpet for years and when I stopped I started getting anxiety! I am sure it is the breathing that made the difference.

Re- tumo breathing- I spent a very cold night on the Cullin ridge on Skye-. No tent or sleeping bag- instinctively felt warmer with strong deep breaths. That was the longest night of my life!

Sleeping on either side thing: When I was 14 or 15 yrs old I noticed that I could control my dreams to a point, all by accident. Any dream I was having and happened to wake up briefly - If I went back to sleep on my left side The dream I was having would carry on, more that once if I woke up briefly again. If I deliberately went back to sleep on my right side on on my back this would not happen. I figured that this was likely due to gravity and blood flow to my brain. What the heck, I thought I would mention this

IF you read Dr. Weston Price's book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration", the point made is that refined foods of the 20th century produced the problems discussed in this podcast; particularly skull and mandible sizes. These problems also appear during times and in countries where diet is based on grains, from the ancient Egyptians, to the European "Dark Ages", to England of the 18th and 19th centuries (if not earlier).

Wow! Thank you Dr Gundry and Mr James Nestor! This is really helpful information. I look forward to getting the Breath book. I like to lay on my right side initially when I lay down, but I move to the other side after a few minutes. There is a reason for this as you have discussed. Dr Gundry’s protocol and supplements have really helped me. My A1c is 5.1 ! I love eating the lectin free way!

Dr. G., Thank you so much for always keeping us informed what’s going on around us and all the information related to health. I subscribed your podcast for a while now and really enjoy listening to you talk all thing health when I run, cook, drive, do errands and sometimes, work. Now there is all this talk about the urgency to take the flu shot this year to avoid 'twin pandemic'? I would like to hear your take on this? Have you ever taken any flu shot? What's the effectiveness of the flu shot? Do you recommend taking flu shot this year? Also, will you get the COVID vaccine when it's available? I hope to hear your recommendation on the podcast or KZbin soon! Thank you, Dr. G.

This information is beyond any Allopathic Medicine I have ever heard of. Kudos to the both of you. 👍👍 I would give more thumbs up but in reality I only have two. Rock on guys

Very interesting. I was watching both you (Dr. Gundry) and James Nestor when you were talking and noticed that a lot of air was taken in via mouth when both of you were talking. Maybe practicing talking on the out-breath and then taking in air through the nose before continuing to talk again (another words not breathing through the mouth even when talking), would result in a worthwhile habit.

On the subject of nose/mouth breathing... we were taught in my group in the Marine’s was that if you are working out hard you breath in through your nose out through your mouth to ensure your brain is kept cooler; the air flow through the nostrils goes so close to the brain it works as a radiator cooling the cranial fluid and the brain. Now, if the outside temperature is ‘above’ the body’s temperature example 99+ degrees then it is best to breath in and out through the mouth. It definitely works to improve your endurance when marching or running

Hi Dr. Gundry! I live in Brazil and I started your Plant Paradox protocol. In fact I am in the second week of phase 2. But I forgot to limit my ingestion of olive oil and I have about 7 or 8 table spoons per day. Can I start to limit in the third week? And how many table spoons per day am I supposed to take? And when can I increase to 8 table spoons?

Positional therapy and elevation is useful in sleep therapy but nasal breathing has nothing to do with it because the obstruction occurs in the back of throat and palate, mouth opening happens because your airway is obstructed. Giving people advice like train yourself to keep your mouth closed to cure apnea is dangerous in my opinion.
