Because the reason we're feeling the pressure (and I say we, they and their donors f**king aren't) IS because we're ruled by people who have nothing but contempt for us, for the country and the rule of law - because all those things get in the way of their private wealth and power. The parties are the spots during measles, but it's harder to see them as important when right now when we're all focused on making sure the bank account still balances at the end of the month. I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm certain that your mum won't have been the only one. I have always voted Labour because I don't believe in Tory policies. having said that up until Bunter came to power the Tory party had been a once great institution that fought it's corner according to its beliefs and stuck true to them. All that has gone out of the window with Bunter, who when questioned, blusters, prevaricates and lies by saying the first thing that comes in to his rather feeble brained head, believing that he will be able get away with it. He is without a doubt an expedient and dangerous liar. A once great political party has been brought to its knees by Bunter and his lightweight, in every sense of the word, cabinet. I hope that the decent Tory back-benchers (and they do exist) will see their way to removing him from power. I also hope that there are enough sentient and intelligent people like yourself that will also see him for what he is and withhold their support. As I said I come down on the left side of politics but at a time when we need a strong government and opposition there is a real lack of ability all over.

Occasionally you look at a country and wonder how it got to wherever they are now. How did they become so unhitched from the normal standards of logic and decency? And it wasn't overnight but a creeping sense of tribalism over all that started to push at the confines of civility until advocating for the deaths of those seen as inconvenient became a way to score political points. Prime Ministers shouldn't be held to the same standards as the rest of us, they should at least attempt to give the appearance of leading by being more moral and worthy of their position. A position that should be of service to the rest of us, rather than the rest of us being used to illegally pay for their fancy wallpaper. And when we see that "oh we have a wrong'un" it shouldn't matter if we agree with their politics because we should feel like we deserve better.
