@@fahqgoogle5941 Re-read he said "one of the best" not ever, and it's out of respect as a metaphor. James Toney won at least one major title in 3 seperate weight divisions. There is nothing easy about winning either an IBF, WBO, WBA or WBC in any weight division let alone 3 seperate ones. He was an elite boxer with arguably one of the best defensive skills ever in the game.

That's why the philly shell is, it's a flat footed in the pocket style, Floyd doesn't use the philly shell people think because it's a bladed stance behind the shoulder that it's the same, the mayweather defense is different even the position of the shoulder is different, only Floyd Sr and Floyd did this style, and Floyd mastered it, it was taught to Sr by Dale Williams in Detroit it's not the philly shell

James was an excellent counter puncher and had great defense on the inside, but he still took shots not to mention all the sparring. Well in a few year Toney will not be able to talk at all. He's almost there. I think he took most of his punishment early in his career before mastering the roll. He said they use to put him in the ring sparring anybody no matter how much better they were. He learned the hard way. Definitely one of the best but even the Hitman Hearns is having trouble speaking these days. Floyd, Leonard etc can still speak clearly and they were the best at hitting and not getting hit so to all the young fighters out there take heed. Boxing is a tough profession. So if you go down that path it is best to follow Floyd's lead and focus on superior defensive skills and avoid taking too much punishment. That brain can only bang into that skull wall so many times before unrecoverable damage is done.

@Umi K "Burger King Burger King!" Was listening to that interview recently and he absolutely DID NOT sound like this get out of here. Guy can barely speak. In fact I didn't hear a thing he just said. I never had trouble understanding Toney when he was active. I even remember the interview after he beat Holyfield. "I don't wanna hear nothing about he was old or washed up, I beat Evander Hollyfield baby! Yeah that's right, James Toney beat the great Evander Holyfield" I could always understand him perfectly. I didn't understand jack just now. Quite frankly I am shocked.

You think james toney was a better boxer than floyd? He wasn’t more accurate he didn’t have a better defense do you not hear the man talk? That’s from years of punishment now go look at floyd’s face and how he talks and how he moves around these days like he’s still boxing. You can’t seriously believe what your saying floyd’s avoided more contact than any fighter in the history he had championship fighters hitting an average of 19-25% that was the AVERAGE you can’t say those fighters are anything remotely close. Now james toney has the Ko power but please don’t be the casual to sit here and say KO is the most important thing in boxing. KO doesn’t define boxing it just comes with the territory. Boxing has always been an intellectual chess game and for obvious reason toney wasn’t smarter than floyd and this statistic can be defended 4x over cause floyd was way much smarter than anyone he ever fought.

Most Won't understand That Toney was a beast in the lighter days of his boxing career! His shell defense was better than Floyd's when Toney was younger and lighter! As Toney aged and he also kept moving up in weight and he took more punishment than floyd! The shell defense was great when he was younger and lighter but when he went up in weight Toney didnt have agility as he did when he was younger and in a lighter weight class! This it self hurt him big because he was taking heavier punches and started taking more damage because he just couldn't move like he use to! So this is why most will scream Floyd shell defense was better! lol Honestly, Both shell defesne was remarkable and Toney's shell was more offense and counter!! While Floyd's, at his beginning of his career was offensive and countering but ended up turning into more defense in his middle and prime of his career ! His offensive was more dictated on what was coming at him, however a younger floyd shell was just as amazing as Toney's because he was very offesnsive and exsplosive with it! Respect to both! Great video and have a great day!

It's too different forms of defensive. And no it wasn't superior, as nobody as been able to penetrate flyods defence. Tony's is more pleasing to watch and masterful. But let's not discredit flyod who was a master of a different form of the shoulder defence which is more of a stance used to load up his right while practically being untouchable.
@musicmediaproductions

@@VIProfessor Yeah so true!! That first title fight took a lot from him! JT had that drunk master shell style defense! JT also missed wieght for that title fight as well, he was a fat boy and always had trouble making weight in his prime and out of his prime! He said it once in a post interview saying he just loves to eat!! lol While flody could drink soda and eat McDonald's and still couldnt gain weihght lol Another great factor. as well. JT was a party animal and didnt stay inshape between fights unlike Floyd Both great era in boxing history!

@musicmediaproductions 2 жыл бұрын
@@htmm5167 Credit to both and the era they displayed their greatness in! Another aspect that most never understood was Floyd's discipline in and out of the ring between fights and after! Not only he took less punishment in the ring, Floyd also took less punishment outside the ring!! By staying in shape between fights and not polluting his body when celebrating! This was a huge variable that played in Floyd's career! While other was smoking and sniffing and drinking Flody was in the gym at 2am, 3am or doing road work! just honored to have witness both great boxers!! Just like we got to see Jordan in the NBA! We got to witness greatness before photoshop, vid edits and email champions! lol
@VIProfessor

@@musicmediaproductions No doubt that conditioning (or lack thereof) was a HUGE factor! There were too many times when JT just didn't have the legs to go with his upper body movement, and too many times when he allowed inferior opponents to have opportunities that they shouldn't have had. Often, his lack of stamina would only allow him to fight in spurts, and he would have to rest on the ropes.
