Will Annie, my half Thai/British daughter, choose to stay in Thailand ? I ask her this question and others regarding her life here in Thailand. From the woke issue in Thailand to whether she feels women are treated equally here. We venture out into Tak town for some fun and games first and I’m cooked a fantastic meal by my wonderful daughter.

Many thanks James and Annie, great perspectives and views from Annie, calm sensible and accurate. Aus and Melbourne is a great place, closer to Thailand, salaries are great and lots and lots of Asian food and markets. But our winter is same as your wet season so weather coolish. Brisbane even closer to Thailand and winter is ideal (around 20 degrees centigrade). Again economic ops are very good in Aus for anyone prepared to work hard and have a good attitude. I lived in UK for 3 years including during the financial crisis and things weren't great then. I was in Manchester and it was grey in every way but particularly during that time, however, it looks even worse now than then. Whenever I visited London and counties south of London the weather and country side was much better. UK just looks broken in too many ways at moment, but maybe change of govt can see things improve. Many thanks again James and Annie.🙏

There's thousands of mixed kids, but I've never seen one that's grown up in one county & speaks the second language so well, no Thai accent while Annie's speaking English at all. James take a bow, we have loads of Thai/farang kids here in London & very very few even speak a word of their mothers tongue, for you to get Annie to this level, is truly amazing, well done that man.

Believe me, as a Brit living in Thailand and Vietnam since 2016, theres a reason why 600,000 people have left the UK on each of the last 3 years as we import 1.3 million per year to replace us. Seriously, dont even think of giving up what youve got in Thailand to move back to the UK cause you'll regret it forever. 👍

Couldn’t agree more. I moved to the U.K. in 1999 and have become so disillusioned by what it has become. While I am setting up my retirement home to in Thailand 🇹🇭 in the very near future, I feel I have had to abandon my life dream of living in a "first world country" where even Thailand has better broadband than the U.K. That’s just one aspect. Every time I pop over to Thailand, there are new things to see or buy that I would never expect to see in the UK

Hi James, I'm glad you made this video cos it's the type of conversation I often have with my 18 year old daughter these days and I really need other perspectives. We've lived in Hua Hin for almost 20 years now and I wouldn't live anywhere else. All of Natalie's friends are half Thai aside from a few Russians, so some have left for Europe after finishing school and others have gone to Bangkok for universiry. She'll be going to uni too this year and says she'd prefer to stay in Thailand doing some online business. We do enjoy your videos!

James, love the relationship you have with your daughter. Respect to her culinary skills. Similar time in life I used to do the same, cooking Indian curries from scratch which were well received. As for the whole Thailand versus UK, as someone with Irish, British and Flemish heritage, I totally understand being curious about the other countries that make up your heritage, and by all means visit and take a good look around, but having lived and worked in Hong Kong, Malawi, Germany, and a few other places, hands down Thailand is top of the list, but I could also see Malaysia (Langkawi), Bali, and the Philippines being on the list of places to settle down full time in. Pick and chose depending on the seasons of the year. I know my life has been far from conventional, but I'm very envious of you guys being in Thailand. I've been wanting to relocate for about a decade so far.

Very interesting James, a completely different perspective from any other I’ve seen in recent years. Annie is a very clever and grounded young lady. Her English is impeccable but I’m not really surprised, you’re obviously the biggest influence in her life. Such a shame that university education in Thailand seems to provide such few financially viable opportunities. Imagine studying for all those years to work in 7-11 😩 I also hate what’s going on in the UK, thankfully we’ll be moving to Issan as soon as we sell up. ✈️✈️✈️

The wife being Thai herself is sure its the best thing for us. London has fallen, thats for sure. My neighbour was murdered last week for her handbag. It doesnt feel safe anymore at night. Living costs are too extreme. Aside from the cleaner air, family and schools theres not much keeping us here. Also, very impressed with the snooker skills 😊

I could relate to a lot you and your daughter have said. I brought my daughter to the uk when she was 5 years old, she is now 26. She recently returned to Thailand for a holiday and she couldn’t wait to return back to the UK . She went to see the family in Takhli, the first thing that they did was to ask her for money, not how are you or anything like that just, we have bills to pay. My wife sends a grand every month. To me, my lovely Thai family are just leaches. If my daughter returns to Thailand in the future, she won’t be going back to Takhil, which I think is really sad. Good luck kid .

Great kid you're raised there mate. Actually I shouldn't call her a kid that's a bit patronising, great young woman. Thoughtful, empathetic and clearly loves you to bits and vice versa. I'm also very fortunate that my family dynamic is much the same but I see constant reminders that not everyone/ family enjoys that same degree of closeness so whatever else is going on in my life I always feel extremely grateful for that. Without getting too hippy drippy about it, and while I myself am also partial to a bit of online retail therapy in the form of Hong Kong's answer to Lazada, Taobao, at the end of the day all the things you accumulate and surround yourself with are just that - things. Who you really care about and who really cares about you is all that counts for anything in this life.

I like your apparent lifestyle. You live in a quiet, rural setting and (seem to) have a peaceful lifestyle. Living in the UK, where I have lived for most of my 58 years, is not terrible by any means but it isn’t as good as it used to be. But like Thailand, living in a city is different to living in a more suburban or rural setting. I live in a town of 70,000 population about 15 south west of Gatwick Airport. A decent town that definitely doesn’t seem “woke”. All that being said, I do want to retire to Thailand 😊. Better weather and more affordable (the south east of the UK is expensive).

Very interesting video, James. I also have a young daughter here in BKK (British/Thai) and I know many younger mix race Thai people (Aus/Thai, Brit/Thai etc) and it is interesting hearing their story. Many love Thailand but society doesn't really accept them as being 'Thai'. It's not done in a negative way as most revere them but they are also looked upon as being different or not 'Thai Thai'. Just quickly on the woke stuff. Thailand is probably the most accepting and progressive society when it comes to trans, why doesn't the west look at Thailand as an example e.g the pronouns rubbish...not a thing here, trans in sport, etc. When asked if you are a woman 90% would answer "no, I'm a ladyboy or katoey" and that absolutely fine. It seems to be a western privilege or boredom to want to argue about it.

Sawasdee krub P'James. As Thai, I've lost my prime time almost 2 decades due to politic conflict in my country. At my current age a few year younger than u, I'm sicked and tired about politics. I never believe in those elites. I'd risk my life against Junta since 2006 coup. But if they do due process, just go for it. Eventhough it's fucked up in many aspects - stupid laws and so on. Let politic be solved at parliament, not on street. Steps by steps. I knew how younger generation feel ... To me they seem to jump from 1 or 2 to 8 or sth. I don't blame them because that's how I feel as well back in the day. I don't have the answer for this issue. I've tried my best to calm and do whatever I can. Woke cultures. Nahhhh it doesn't fly here in Thailand. TBH it's an idea for weak people - spoiled too much. In Thailand, It's not like we accepted. I would say we do not against them in general much more accurate. It doesn't matter who you are as long as you do good for your family, not disturbing our society. Woke is the problem in itself for the west, not here. Stupid one will think we have the same issue. So we must tackle it as US/UK. That's totally absurd. It's not the standard of electrical devices like usb-c. Not everything in the west fit well in Thai society. We don't need to follow every steps. Individualism in the west cause a lot of problem here. Sth they might think it's their right. So they show no grateful/sympathy toward others ..... well well well many things are not right, it's privilege in a sense they don't realize. Thinking about their own right too much to the point they never think about society and country as a whole. We need to find the balacne btw individual and collective. Otherwise we'll see people do whatever they want without considerate. Finally, Love to hear comment from Annie. I've raised my nephew until he graduated university in Engineering a couple years ago. He express his idea like Annie. Wish your daughter succeed and happy.

The woke stuff is one thing, but the main things I don't like about the UK are the st*bbings that've been going on, how being a Deano has become the norm (if you're not aware of what Deano's are, look it up. It is quite a recent meme), how humdrum life here is and how people seem to celebrate this mediocrity as if it's something to be proud of. Also not keen on the destruction of nature everywhere I look with the aforementioned Deano's paving over their front gardens to make room for his and hers Range Rover's. Honestly, just the general culture here in the UK nowadays is pretty despicable, but what's even more despicable is the noticeable lack of people questioning it. I say "wtf is happening to this country?" in my head every day, but I feel like most people just go along with it like the obedient little worker drones they are. As long as they have the latest iPhone, Netflix, an ugly new car and a gym membership, they're happy.

I only asked my 15 year old yesterday does he like living on a island he said he enjoys the freedom and knowing everyone but he stated all the tourists annoy him lots. I asked him he fancied western women or Thai or maybe boys he said half and half is his cup of tea. I miss home lots but like you happy here when I see all the woke issues at home and Ireland has now a serious migrant issue so happy to be away from all of that. Dont be fooled as you know about Thai women my lady controls everything even does all my visa stuff I just stand and smile at the IO. I learnt early keep the ATM topped up leads to a happy smiling wife in the land smiles.

I will take my daughter to UK for an extended stay (less than a year) after she finishes high school. She needs to fully understand about her dad's country, but 100% she won't want to stay there. The UK and Europe are totally fu**ed. I'd rather be a foreigner in a foreign land than be a foreigner in my own country. Also, how come Annie doesn't tell you to fu** off every 20 minutes (like my daughter does); do you cut those bits out?

It spoke volumes when you felt you had to censor some of your questions to annie, everyone in Thailand is oppressed in one shape or form by the Thai government, of course Thai people look to the west as a saviour, how many Thai women who have lived in the west want to move back to Thailand, not very many, I’ve lived here 3 years and already I’m fed up with the noise and dirtyness of the country, most Thai people living in rural villages have little respect for hygiene and pretty much no desire to have a clean and tidy house, most Thai people are happy to have a house that resembles a tip. Emducation here is sun par with most qualifications here not recognised in the west. I know probably 5 or 6 women that are residents in the Uk, their husbands have died but they are not rushing to come back to Thailand because they have seen the light, Thailand is ok for us old boys wanting a bit of sunshine and a slower pace of life, but for Thai people especially women they want to leave

Well done. As my thai wife would mention, an investment with a good payoff. We are currently in the US, preparing to move to our house in hua hin. Peaceful and not much drama. Your daughter may enjoy that environment. We witness the woke crap here in the US and I am weary of it. Your daughter has her head on straight and is more focused than moat people her age, a joy to watch the interactions. I have seen the immigrants crap in every country they are given asylum to, and it is disgusting. It appears to be a specific group hardly worth a mention. Take a look at a once great country, Sweden, and that is a perfect example of what not to do now. No country is the best, just a choice of how much one cares to deal with, hence our exit from the usa.
