Hi folks. In this video I review the Atomstack X40 Max laser engraver. This engraver uses a blue diode laser module that can switch the power output between 24W and 48W for fine engraving or cutting thick materials. It has a rugged frame that forms a massive 800x400mm work area, and uses a linear rail on the x axis for better stability and accuracy at speeds up to 600mm/s, as well as drag chains to support and protect the cables that are attached to moving parts. It also comes with a touch screen terminal so you can work offline instead of connecting it to a PC.

Hello. Very good video! And what do you use, a model of a protective steel grille with a stop for exposing workpieces? How do I find and buy one? It can be seen at 7.16 minutes of your video's time. What is this

Hello Dear James... How can I find the optimum settings for the product I cut? Do I have to do a material test for each product?

Is there a rotary tool available that works with the x40 Max?

Nice review. How long did it take to receive, once you ordered? Have you had any problems?

Only took about a week and a half. No problems yet. Super simple to set up and it's working great so far. I've invested the same into other engravers that weren't half as good as this. Literally less than half the size, half the power. The quality is top notch.

Hey BeetleBeetleY, I also own a X40 Max and struggling really hard to get useable cutting results out of it. I mostly try cutting 9mm plywood and it is always a balance between cutting and burning the material. when you try complex shapes most cuts are inconsistent and the surroundings get heavy burned. Think about what you want to do with your laser, before you buy one.

Just purchased the AtomStack X49 Max. I purchased the cover for it, I don't like it. It covers up the workings of the machine. I need to make some blocks to stabilize the legs on the mounting surface. Also need a way to use a riser of sorts to use a rotary. I also purchased a very nice cutting surface from Amazon. It fits perfectly.

This is by far the best review I’ve yet to see on this engraver, including the ones ATOMSTACK has on their website. I have a question regarding the engraving material test. Do you raise the Z axis to 8.5 mm in the 24W mode or do you only raise it if engraving in the 48W mode? I’m new to lasers and I’ve had no problems w the cut test on 1/8” ply but struggling with getting the engrave to come out correctly. Thanks again for the video.

Any idea if it can cut carbon fiber sheets? 3mm thick would be amazing.

Not sure, but great question. Generally, diode lasers have a hard time engraving or cutting clear material without having to color the surface first (some clear materials are unaffected by the laser, some scatter the laser, some absorb too much and burn/melt instead of vaporize like it should). So the epoxy could be a problem depending what you're working with, exactly. If you've got to cut through a thick finish coat, I doubt it would work without making a mess. If it's just wetted (but cured) cf, it might. The dark color could be enough to make it work. I don't have any cf but I could dye some epoxy and laminate a fiberglass panel to try.

I see the pieces "squared" on the cut bed. Is that an attachment it comes with or you added?

Can you please do a video for cutting ABS plastic 4mm? Thank you.
@JamesBiggar
@JamesBiggar 4 ай бұрын
You can't cut abs with a laser, unfortunately. It doesn't vaporize, it melts. Makes a mess, inaccurate, toxic fumes.

@JamesBiggar many thanks for your reply. But acrylic can be cut, according to some information. That s correct?

Black acrylic only for diode. If you want to cut others, you need co2

@JamesBiggar appreciate your reply. Very useful! Co2 equipment's much more expensive. This thing of laser cutting is not easy as a person could think. Thanks for all

Am I the only person who like to use thicker plywood for projects? I notice everyone always tests cutting through solid wood but never 1/4" or 1/2" plywood...
@JamesBiggar
@JamesBiggar 4 ай бұрын
Then you haven't seen enough of my videos. I test cut through 1/2-3/4" ply all the time. The power requirement difference between ply and natural wood of the same species is marginal at best. Ply is more predictable because the quality is more consistent and easier to control. No knots or fatwood to deal with. I like using thick plywood when the need calls for it. Not everything calls for thick plywood. Not everything looks good made with plywood, either.
