What I've always enjoyed about your break downs is that you don't sugar coat anything. If you don't know what something does, you don't try to come up with bs terms, you just out right say, no idea what it does but it sounds good. That is the motto for production, get the basics down and the rest can be done by how it sounds to you. Congrats on #1 btw!

For your shaperbox and saturn 2 in every project you should use a free volume measuring plugin like mvmeter to see how much gain those saturations add to your track. For example if saturn 2 adds 2dB of volume (as indicated by mvmeter) you should then group a utility with -2dB on it with fabfilter saturn 2, then turn the group on/off to really find out if that saturation is benefitting the track or not!

Thank you James. I love this. Every time you do this is gives me more to chew on for how to fine tune my music (especially since I just started making music last December). I was about to release a new track, but seeing some of the finer details you've done on various elements, I'm going to revisit each element and see what happens. Funny thing on how you manufacture sounds...the lead stab for my new track is partly made of a sound effect from The Force Unleashed Star Wars game, a Force Choking sound, and I messed with it until I got a pretty damn cool sound. lol. Sometimes you just gotta play with sounds and see what happens.
