According to mobygames, Michiharu Hasuya composed both the music for Rygar and Dr. Jekyll. That would explain the similarities.

When I used to play this at my neighbor's house it always kind of weirded me out. I liked it, but the atmosphere gave me a strange feeling. I kind of miss that about being a kid, having things like games be able to put you into your own world like that.

the best thing to do to beat Rygar is level up your guy all the way before even starting to explore. i used to set up a turbo controller with the down and attack buttons taped down. Then leave the NES on over night. With endless creature spawn your guy is maxed out next time you play. As long as no one messes with your setup while you are gone....

Rygar is the original God of War. The original Rygar arcade game existed even before God of War was popular. The main characters even have chains linked to their weapons! Will you ever play the Rygar remake on PS2, James and Mike? I remember that Rygar remake though.

Mike, I used to play old games all my life, and I remember the reactions of my friends and brothers "are you STILL playing with this crap?" or "time to grow out of it!". I always liked things that stood the test of time, and apparently I was on the right track, but I can tell you, it's been a lonely way. No internet until 2006, no retro stores, only a few street markets once a month. The only outlet and common ground for this passion was the magazine Game Republic.

Hopefully you can continue because I forget how far ahead you are now and if you have all of the items you need. One thing I did as a kid was grind the shit out if he game before getting to that turtle lion hamster boss. With upgrades it isn’t so bad once you get used to it. I am really glad that you are doing this game though - this was one I wished you had done for a long time so now I can cross that off my list...Symphony of the Night is still on the list though haha

Depends on the beer and the amount you're used to. Over drinking is nothing to be proud of after all. If James considered it a lot for him, then it was.

Replace 5 beers, with 5 grams of coke and then replace Rygar with Mario Party 4. So we all had different experiences, but yet similar somehow if you get my drift, lol. Oh man, college around 1999-2005 was the last bit before the students became like fragile little snowflakes.

This game has my vote for most underrated game. This was also a I game I rented multiple times but never owned. I see a lot of people had the same habit of renting it a lot. Its an awesome game with great music and gameplay. Hits me in the feels.
