Just bought a pro. For me, if you already have a ps4 and happy with it, no need to upgrade. But like me, I didn’t have any console so i went with the pro. But for the perf improvement, i think a better test is to use the games where the ps4 struggles, see if the pro performs better. Not just the graphics. If the pro can maintain the FPS better than the non-pro, then that is a selling point also

Thank you for this comment. I have a regular PS4 and its LOUD. I mean so loud I have to put it in a closet to be able to enjoy my games. I owned a day 1 ps4 and it was fine for a few years. but it got sluggish and very noisy. mostly the fan. i ended up trading it in for the pro and noticed a drastic improvement in framerates on select games that are demanding on system resources. I would say it's worth the switch if you have noticed sluggish performance.

It is sad that graphics comes over performance. I have a good PC that runs all games on Ultra with 80-90+fps, but in some games like shooters i would sacrifise graphics to run them at 120+ fps. I bought a PS4 for couch gaming, but i sold it pretty fast again, because some games was locked at 30fps which shouldn't be allowed in 2016.

GPU performance is doubled in comparison to the PS4 Pro. so it is capable of doing 60fps with otherwise identical graphic settings when compared to a standard PS4. it's just the question if you wanna invest this difference in peformance into framerate or other things. in my opinion framerate is definitely more important than resolution. if you can have 60fps @ 4k, sure go for it. otherwise let us have 60fps @ 1080p.

that's wrong, and there are already games out there that prove it. just look at Rise of the Tomb Raider. you have 3 options there. 1080@30fps (enhanced graphics), 4k@30fps and 1080@60fps. the latter has the same graphical quality than the standard ps4, but at 60fps. it is very possible. i recommend you check out the digital foundry video on this.

This test is not fair: Unch4 is not the game that has a lot of difference between the PS4 and PRO. For example you could've started both PS4 and PRO with the Last Guardian, both in 1080p: all the people would've noticed that ps4 has a lot of fps drops to low 20s whereas the Pro runs at almost perfect 30 fps. Or FFXV - also noticably better picture and framerate. Rise of The Tomb Raider - the same, has all the options to run better or in 4k or with better graphics. And the console is what it is - it's PRO, it's for those 10-15% who cares about graphics and framerate. And you guys are so actively AGAINST PS4 Pro it's like Sony is stopping the production of Slim and MAKES you jump to the Pro. Don't like it - don't buy it - as simple as that.

Interesting comparison but.... Would of been good if you actually showed the difference on a decent 130" 4K projector as well. As On a 32" screen of course you won't see a difference unless you pixel peeped. Showing the difference on the smaller screen only shows that if you have a small TVs then you don't need the pro version, as 1080p on a 32" screen the pixel per inch are more then adequate. But if you have a high end wall sized 4K home cinema then you will see 4x the pixels and benefit from the upgrade.

I disagree. More and more games are taking further advantage of the Pro. The Last Guardian for example has framerate problems and goes between 20-30fps at 1080p on the base PS4. On the Pro at 1080p, it's solid at 30fps. For the 4k mode, it can drop to 27, but it's still much better performance than the base PS4. FFXV also has nice bonuses, and is getting a further patch to try for 60fps in the lite mode. The graphics upgrades in the high quality mode are significant.

I think it's unfair to quote them the sale price of the Slim vs. the regular price of the Pro. The Pro is $399 and the slim is $299, not $250. Beyond that Uncharted 4 falls really far on the low end of pro upgrades, it just switches to 1440p rendering and already has really good AA implemented on the regular PS4. Other games have framerate improvements, upped visual effects, or a much greater resolution boost. If you already own a PS4 I wouldn't go rushing out to get a Pro, but if you don't, I don't see why you'd choose the worse version, especially as price drops and sales get them even closer in price.

Read carefully at 1:24 -- then think about why they are unable to see this 4k clarity (even if the TV attempts to upscale it), 4k resolution is not 2560 x 1440. 4k Resolution is 4096 x 2160 for theaters and 3840 X 2160 for consumers. This was not a good game to use for this type of comparison, native 4k games on the console do exist (though they are few and far between). To be fair though, they could hardly tell the difference and those that knew which one looked better, weren't entirely confident. At some point, the average consumer is going to stop caring or noticing the differences in image clarity. 1080p seems like enough for the average person. Hell, I would argue the average consumer can''t tell the difference between 720p or 1080p.

I got a PS4 pro. I like it. It's too early in its life cycle to judge it. I got mine because my other PS4 was suffering from the Blue Light of Death. The slim doesn't have optical out or an extra USB port in the back. I record gameplay. So the extra USB is handy. It's not for everyone. I totally understand.

If you have a higher end 4K TV, and especially one with HDR, and you love gaming on the PS4, then yes, the PS4 Pro is worth the money. I have an LG B7 OLED 65" TV, and 4K gaming on this TV really is a step above. Moreover, as some below have stated, many of these games are upscaled simply because they weren't built with the PS4 Pro in mind. Games like GT Sport rival Forza 7, and many of the future releases for PS4 will have PS4 Pro support in mind, instead of backwards engineering graphics to look better via upscaling. The same can be said for the XBOX One X. 2018 games will honestly look AMAZING on PS4 Pro and XBOX One X, IF you have a really good 4K TV that supports HDR. If I didn't have either the LG 7 Series, or the Sony A1E, or the Samsung Q series, or a few of the other higher end 4K TV's of 2017, and a very select few of 2016, I wouldn't bother getting either one. So that really comes down to less than 2 to 3 percent of the market who will see marked improvement at THIS time. 4K sales will only increase though. So I can see most people's point about not needing either one. With that said, if you have one of the TV's I listed above, or one of Sony's or Samsung's higher end 4K's with HDR, or Phillips or Panasonic's OLED's, ESPECIALLY 55" or larger, DEFINITELY do yourself a favor and get the PS4 PRO or XBOX One X, .. or both!!!

Haha here I am upgrading to pro in 2019! Seriously I do think it will be worth it though. I have three ps4 games coming out early 2020 that I really want to play and don't want to deal with my malfunctioning ps4. I bought a ps4 at launch so it gets too hot and too loud and starts auto ejecting discs and sometimes starts beeping and going off for no reason. As someone who loves physical copies of games it's a nightmare. If ps5 comes out late 2020 I still will wait probably a year or two until I pick it up. I learned from the last time that it's best to wait until they get all the early bugs and glitches out. Hopefully it will give some time for them to build a good ps5 library before I get one.

Uncharted 4 is probably one of the most beautiful games on PS4. It has massive amounts of post processing, and it would be pretty difficult to see the difference between 1080p and 1440p. Uncharted 4 is an excellent game to show off the power of the ORIGINAL PS4, the Pro version simply got a resolution bump to 1440p, all graphics and textures are the exact same. A better title would've been Titanfall 2 or Rise of the Tomb Raider.

I own the original PS4 and was interested in the PRO version. One of my friends let me borrow his so I could make a decision. I do own a 4K TV and sadly I saw no difference both graphically and in performance.

Biggest benefit with the pro is if you are interested in VR. Better draw distance, most games have either less pop in or assets fade into view at a greater distance (I.e. bushes and rocks on og can pop in 15-20 ft from you and the pro it is around 30-40 ft from you, sometimes even hundreds of feet away and is less intrusive) lighting in VR is also better on the pro and in some games, reflective surfaces are absent from the og console and there are higher particle counts on the pro. That is the only reason why I upgraded to the pro after playing vr on the og console. The psvr (especially on the pro) is honestly the most immersive way to play a video game and I rarely even bother with 2D gaming now.
