From the age of 7 I became a ghost. I was into 1st battalion recon and spotted enemy soldiers and reported their location to friendly units. My brother who also served with me would pop out from behind cover and light them up with the nerf gun. We were deployed several times to the Forrest behind our house, but we mostly fought on the home front. Eventually though, we grew to experienced and the actual army came knocking. My brother is now overseas in Germany. I however, keep up the fight on the home front. I make sure the refrigerator is guarded well

My grandfather fought in WW2 in the battle of the bulge and got a Purple Heart and multiple bronze stars. But we didn’t even find out until after he died when we found his stuff clearing out his attack. We then heard incredible stories about his service from his friends after the funeral. We were shocked that he never told us. Whenever we asked him what he did during the war he would say “I was just a cook, I wasn’t important “. It’s sad to see these guys stealing valor while the true heros don’t want to talk about it because it’s too traumatic for them

My father served in the Army from 1947-67 & served in the Korean War as a medic.He had 1 story he told about his Korean War service & that was when he slugged a fresh in country 2nd Lt for yelling at him for being out of uniform. He did suffer from night terrors. As you said he never talked about what he saw,memories he didn't want to worship as anyone's hero. Living on military bases as we did, was kind of a bubble,never could make friends because your classmates were coming & going.And his deployments for a divorced man with kids, was rather interesting-hiring live in help-was weird.

9 purple hearts is actually a record, held by USMC Staff Sgt. Albert Ireland. Wounded 5 times in WW2 and another 4 more in the Korean War. Due to his 9th injury being so severe, he was medically discharged. So what does he do? He became a firefighter of course. This guy was amazing.

He joined the Marines in 1982, right out of HS, became a Sgt as an OV-10 mechanic, then got out, put himself thru college (with wife & kids) and got picked up USMC his last year. Got his commission and became an AH-1 aviator. But I do love seeing the "geriatric LCpl" in the video with blood stripes ... f-ing hilarious.

Yes, I was a special agent for the Rangers based out of Paris Island. We use to run the stairs up to the top of the Eiffel tower and do our jumps up to 16 times a day. I've personally never served, but I come from Army family. I get why stolen valor is a problem. But I also appreciate that Jameson has said how annoyed he is with the "I have friends who died in that uniform" line. Probably very few people have ever died while wearing dress blues, and certainly none have ever been in combat. The point of respecting the uniform is not because people have died while wearing it, IMO. It's because people give so much of their lives earning the right to wear it, and these stolen valor bastards are treating it like a costume.

Anyone can wear any military uniform they want, and can lie about any medals, or other honors they want. So long as they aren't benefitting from it in any way, it does not constitute stolen valor, and is not illegal. It is not illegal to treat any military uniform like a costume. So long as they aren't doing it to get money, it's not stolen valor.

I had the opposite, a repair guy came in and saw my USMC posters and mini flags of POW/MIA and US flags and asked if I was vet and I said no, and he asked why my respect for the military and USMC out of all the branches and I let him know my dad is a Marine, and he proceeded to tell me about his service in the Marine Corps and some of his experiences. He at least sounded legit and carried himself with the confidence of a Marine. (Edited for some grammar and my excuse for poor English is I am an American lol)

Yeah, Jameson; LRRP was born in Vietnam. Had some LRRP guys roll with us 20 miles west of Dong Ha. We then separated. They went on their mission & we went on ours. We were U.S.A.F. OSI/Joint Military Covert Ops. (We went searching for jungle POW camps, to rescue captured, downed pilots; before they were moved to the "Hanoi Hilton" in Hanoi.)

In the early 60’s LRRP’s teams were created by the Army, and in 1969 they changed them into the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Marines version of LRRP’s was Force Recon

Ehhh he ain’t completely wrong. During Vietnam Recon Marines were often used the same way as Army LRRPs. The main difference being that Marines didn’t use montgards for point men and tail end Charlie as well as larger teams and heavier weapons.(which is weird considering that today the Army has all of the heavy infantry and we traditionally only have light infantry. )

Semper Fi Brother and thank you bringing these fools out. I am 71 year old Jarhead Vietnam Veteran that went into the USAR for 20 years and retired. When I went to ANCO the Instructors called me out tell me to stop talking about Vietnam. I asked why and they said I was to young to have been there. LMAO, I enlisted in 1969 for 4 years Vietnam 72-73. I did ANCO in 1986 and luckily had my DD214 and made them choke on their words. They took me back in class and called everyone to Attention and apologize to me. That was great but I liked the Military Fatigues for hunting and fishing and had nothing on it to say USA or rank. But some jerk yelled at me to stop wearing a uniform that I didn't deserve to wear. So it hurts to be on the other side of that coin also. I even had Marines give me a hard time because I went USAR. I tried to find a Marine Reserve but the one didn't want me in the town across the river the other was up north of Chicago which was 125 miles away. The USAR was only 15 minutes from home and I trained them to be Marines. I had about a half dozen guys go and become Marines after talking to me. They came back and thank me for my Standards.

I think you have to remember that this guy is fake so the ribbon is deformed, most likely bought on eBay, a surplus store or a flea market (we call them boot sales). The fine stripes in the center of the white are washed out and the green edges are now grey/white, the ribbon may not even belong to the medal, hashed together or faded. It shows just how much of a village idiot this guy is, at his rank and age why would he have an Afghan medal. On another note he has it on his right side, here in the UK if you put medals on your right it means you are wearing them for someone else that earned them like a husband or wife that has died, you often see older women wear their husbands medals on their right, not sure if the USA does this.

When I got back home I started working at a local grocery store (HEB for my fellow Texans). This chick I worked with had this anchor necklace, asked her about it and she told me her fiancé gave it to her, he was a Navy SEAL. On any military uniform, particular features will identify them from a distance. The USMC dress blues has a red strip down the leg to identify them as leaders. Once discovered, the enlisted have a white belt around the waist. The officer's white hat has a gold strap across the front. It is similar with the Army and Navy uniform. Not so much with the Air Force uniform.

How do these guys not know they’re gonna get called out on this? There’s military and ex military personnel everywhere in the US, I never served due to my criminal record, but I tried. Gotta few friends who served though, and they’re no joke. Funny side note, I have one very close friend that joined the army after high school and ended up becoming an Apache/Blackhawk chopper pilot. He was deployed to war zones a few times and out of respect I never asked him about what he went through, and he never brought it up other than to say the scariest thing in training was when they made you rely 100% on your instruments and never look at the landscape. I’ve noticed universally that military friends don’t speak of their service, and I respect that, if they want to discuss it, it’s up to them. He told me when he’s off duty and in uniform at a bar, he no longer would tell the ladies he’s a chopper pilot, because he said everyone in the army was feeding that line to the ladies at the local bars lol. Different level of stolen valor. He told me that he tells them he works on the side and models his dxxk for dildo molds and that’s where his $ comes from. He’s a highly successful helicopter pilot trainer in the states now, still in the army, his story made me laugh though. God bless you Mike!

I had a boss who told me he was a navy seal in the later years of Vietnam. I let him talk and listened how his stories were different every time. The more he talked the deeper the BS piled up. I later asked questions on certain things he had told me and he would completely be lost in his lies. It burned me up how the dude straight up lied, I did research ( let alone I had a class in college the American experience in Vietnam) and this guy did not know the first bit of geography of vietnam. Nor did he know major battles that happened. One day I was talking to another young employee about it unaware the district manager was there who was in Vietnam, overheard the conversation and was pissed. Apparently the boss was being investigated already for sexual harassment and other things, the district manager went off on the boss. It was hilarious. I was 11b and these stolen valor things are awful. I don't think they are as bad as they were about 5 years ago though.

I was navy 70's to early 80's, and I couldn't tell you what's a real navy uniform and what's not. It seemed like they were changing uniforms every week (I exaggerate, but it sure seemed that way) sometimes you could mix and match, other times you couldn't. I guess there are people that make it their hobby to know what goes with what, but I just don't have the time. I still wear my old peacoat, but do it to keep warm, and hell, I paid for it.
