Complexes trap you backwards, and instincts push you forward. What an awesome frame of understanding.

I love these extracts from your training program lately. Really valuable information. You guys are changing the world more than you know. I'm in university working towards becoming a therapist. I initially was planning to become a Jungian analyst as Jung had a profound impact on my life, but after discovering your channel about a year ago, my orientation towards psychology has completely changed. I've been completely enthralled in the works of Solms, Panksepp, Rossi, etc. thanks to you guys. Not only has my theoretical knowledge increased exponentially, but you've made my relationship with myself so much stronger and healthier. I truly share in your mission to spread this knowledge, ground depth psychology in cutting edge 21st century science, and bring true healing to the lives of everyday people and I thank you so much for everything you've done and continue to do.

The best way I found to deal with those bastards is to catch them while they’re active and tell myself: “I don’t need to act/think like this anymore”. And when they try to make me think that something in the past was oh-my-god-bad, I just go: “Nah, that’s not really what happened, is it?”. Getting rid of them gave me a small identity crisis cause I’m clearly not who I thought I was, but at least I’m truly happy now. And I would never get there without your channel, so thank you 💛

What you're talking about around the 9:00 mark is well known in the worlds of neurogenetics and evolutionary biology, but unfortunately (as you point out) much of that is lost on the false dichotomy of "nature vs. nurture" in some Jungian circles. I am trying my best to change that but MAN is it tough to extract that fallacy. The genome is so much more sophisticated than many Jungians give it credit for. It's very refreshing to hear you advocate for a full biological understanding of the psyche. BRAVO.

Very grounding and simple. It’s strange to find content on KZbin that talks about ‘natural’ Personal Development in a sense that biology will develop you for yourself, and throughout life you’ll start to develop more and more, without imposing a complex and fixing it into your self-concept. It’s maturity and it’s growing up. Most Personal Development content focus on making yourself better rather than making yourself ‘feel’ better, which is definitely biological and not dependent on the culture. Thanks 🙏

What a good way to identify a complex, past vs future! I'll remember that.

Cheers, TurboSol, the psyche is conservative, in that it sees things as they are, and likes the options clear and natural. Kindest Regards, Steve.🙏

Great video! That bit about how triggers in the environment can activate the release of latent genomic potential is encouraging for me. There are potential hidden gifts that I never knew that I have, just waiting to be released through colliding with the world. It gives me a reason to want to thrive in the world, rather than just survive in it.

My deep gratitude to you for this video. I have watched it several times and applied it, speaking to my deeper self and asking what is now required for the future. The response was clear and it was as a dream. It was uncomfortable this morning to address that and I wanted to turn away and find a way to get round that response. But in choosing to accept it I feel a genuine change in way you described. Such usable, and actionable content! I look forward to more. Best wishes, Alex

Very refreshing perspectives you share! It resounds in my consciousness, 'what, have I held onto something that potentially never existed in that sense?' 'yes, and you already hold the key, that unlocks the future. There is no need to hold yourself back anymore'. The right images will emerge, once you become attuned to the inner self, surely powering through and into the world. This view, very close to what Adler puts forward, is heavily underestimated. It can't be quantified. But then what individual can be reduced to a series of norms? This is treading the speechless territory, of which we know so much, only it's out of our minds, momentarily. Thanks a lot, really amazing content!!

If someone ruminates about the past trying to solve their present mindset, am I hearing you correctly it is best to address the unconscious/genome to move healthier into the future? Fascinating discussions and I am unlearning many ideas regarding my self concept and seeming decades of mental hedlth/nihilist/ existential depressive states...a feeling of liberation and hopefully better relationship with self and others. With sincere gratitude. Lisa

Hi @windrock, thanks for sharing your insights and success. Yes, complexes seek to keep our attention on the past conditions under which they formed, and then maintain these in the present, to secure their own future. Instincts, as the emissary of their master, the genome, despite forming in the remote ancestral past, are concerned with the future, through adaptation to the immediate moment. This is covered in great depth in our recent videos. Kindest Regards, Steve & Pauline 🙏🙏

Such an inspiring video, thanks for sharing this conversation publicly! "Complexes are always interested in the past" - this has been a very helpful line to take into account when I find my attention being pulled backwards in time to something that happened, and especially informed my recent work around motherhood.

Good nuggets of wisdom here. Thanks. Question - what are some examples of the other instincts you referred to other than the Pankseppian ones? I often work with issues like belonging, group identity, relationship needs with my clients - are these like those other instincts and drives that arise?

What are these Seven Basic Insticts that he is talking about ?? Sounds like they are pretty fundamental , but psychology only tells 3 such as self preservation, sexual and social and some say they are 18. , but what are these core 7 base instincts ??
