I didn’t bother with any hardcore under my slab. Rather than have 3 inches of hardcore and 7 inch base, I just went for 10 inch base, for a thicker/stronger base. Ideally you’d want to have put a membrane down to stop the moisture/cement being drawn out of the concrete into the soil and weakening the concrete mix. I also used proper plastic rebar risers, this also helps prevent weak spots in the concrete. However, good effort pal, keep it up. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
@Wrighty
@Wrighty 3 жыл бұрын
Wow! it's comin on now mate. Just check with someone who knows mate, but I don't think you want them blocks under the rebar as I think it could weaken the concrete mate. I think bricks or you can buy special supports for it. fantastic progress though. Credit to you mate. Take care, Terry.

It's a bit of a moot point now but instead of all the hassle of doing the rebar you could have got some super plasticiser/water reducer for the concrete added fibres to the mix and just tipped the concrete into place. It allows you to make a concrete with a low water to cement ratio that goes of very hard like granite and has decent flexural strength it also runs well due the the plasticiser. The worst thing to do to concrete is to add to much water. This makes the concrete shrink and crack and ultimately weak. It's tempting to just keep adding water to the mix to make it sloppy and easy to spread/level but if possible try not to do this. Just thought I'd send you my thoughts for future reference. Keep up the good work 👍

Nice videos. I enjoy watching the progress being made. Just curious why you don't just drain the waste directly into the sewer system you had to create and bypass the round pump station (and not rely on another system. example, sump pump break down etc.?).
@philnayler7156
@philnayler7156 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James another informative video and I appreciate the time and effort it takes on top of both your day job and pond build, just wanted to give some feedback for your consideration if I may ...... you may want to put a DPC down under your base before mixing and working the concrete as you could find that the ground saps out all the water before you have time to work it leaving it with air ingress! Also consider the rebar support from concrete blocks these are have a reasonable large footprint and are a lot softer than the concrete slab will be, this area of the slab will not be within the rebar as this is just sitting on top of the block. Imagine If you were able to lift out the slab and leave the blocks behind could be a weak point as not only are they uniformity alignment to each other but also at each block you only have 3” concrete base rather than 6” hope this helps BR Phil
