It’s actually so moving to me that Ibu Ratna was a person who was faced with the potential eradication of the human species, who found patient zero, and made the decision to advise a total destruction of the entire city. The only hope for humanity was to decimate every spore that existed. Including dying herself, and everyone she loved. She made that incredible sacrifice - but something went wrong. Did they listen? How long was there a delay? It’s so chilling and amazing storytelling AND performance

@nicolaspietrangelo5573 Жыл бұрын
That cold open for the episode is just fantastic. The old cliche from the movies is always that when there's any kind of threat, the military people are always the ones in favor of using guns, bombs and any other kind of weapons against the threat. And the people of science always come up with a vaccine or a cure at the last minute to avoid any unnecesary deaths. Insted, in that scene, the general is asking for a cure, a vaccine, anything that doctor can do to prevent the fungus from infecting everyone else. And what does the doctor say? BOMB. Man, you get so used to see the military saying that first, that when the rational people is the one to suggest to basically kill 30 million people to prevent something from spreading, you know shit got real.
@Eclecktro Жыл бұрын
Plus the fact that most viewers don't speak Indonesian so they have to read the subtitles, and then the word Bomb comes (which is pretty much the same word in Indonesian), grabbing your full attention, unobstructed by subtitles.
@TheUnknownDungeon Жыл бұрын
It's probably a good thing they didn't include spore clouds and the whole "spores infect you" thing. The logistics of trying not to inhale a single spore, when spores stick to your clothes and hair and skin, and continue to be a threat long after they have settled onto your body. No matter how much you try to shake and wash the spores off, there will inevitably be some left over and it's only a matter of time before they are ingested or inhaled. Not to mention there would be spores literally EVERYWHERE. Wind would carry spores all over and eventually it would be coating things and hanging in the air along with all the other dust and dirt that's usually around us. It would get into your food and produce, it would get into water supplies.. There would be no escaping it. So it's a good things that spores aren't an issue in the show. If they were as deadly as the game humanity would be wiped out very quickly.
@Jaker788 Жыл бұрын
That is the reason explained to us on why they changed it. Realistically spores would've been the end of everything very quickly. It was an interesting mechanic for the game but probably wouldn't add as much to the show as well

This show told me that it is possible, with budgets that are available and appropriate PASSIONATE talent. Think of how many billions are constantly spent on big-budget films that were "pretty good!", and then you get this and it's more of a "Holy S#!T" on a reasonable (not-just-a - money-grab) adaptation! While he is the original writer, we can't discredit the massive contribution made by Bruce Straley and the Writer's Group at ND that helped shaped this tale in its inception back on the PS3. Craig Mazin and his crew did put their own spin throughout the show but it maintained the main plot beats because as the main commenter wrote, they had many people including the Showrunner that loved the games and made an actual effort with a decent budget to make it work. I think one of the (many) things that makes this such a great adaptation is: they rarely feel the obligation to change elements that were already working brilliantly in the original game (such as the physical design and sound design of the clickers). Too many adaptations seem to have directors/production designers who feel the need to prove themselves and "improve" the material, or "put their own stamp" on the material - and 90% of the time end up making things worse than the original version. I think having Druckmann on hand for the production helped ensure that very few of the game's great creative decisions got needlessly jettisoned.

I think they actually had a relatively ‘small’ budget and pick and chose where to apply the budget. Like they lucked out on a mall happening to be set for demolition in the same area they were filming, so they got free reign using and trashing a whole mall at a cheap price (for the mall episode). Compared to most shows like this though, budget was tight and they just did it very well. You can tell a few episodes are very low key and simple compared to some showcase episodes.

In spite of how much it slavishly to a fault follows the story's endpoint in the second half and I was very mixed with the changed context and answers given with this adaptation that I feel wasn't as strong as the original game's approach (mainly in the second half which felt very rushed and less impactful from it). I'm not going to spoil anything, but I will say that TLOU 2 doesn't tell as "straight-forward" of a story as the first. The first game (aka season 1) is pretty simple at its core, with it being a familiar story we've seen many times before, but told with some of the best characters in the genre. TLOU 2 on the other hand is the opposite of straight-forward, and it takes a lot of controversial risks in the effort of telling something much more unique and nuanced. Gamers aren't exactly known for loving emotional maturity in their games, so I think TV viewers will be a little more open-minded with what happens. But I also think the show has a great opportunity to improve on some of the criticisms of Part 2 in HOW it tells its story. The writers here are smart and caring, so I think it's in good hands

Humanity teetered on the edge of extinction, clinging to fragments of the past, while the horrors of the present cast long, disconcerting shadows over the future.Ellie, a young woman with eyes weary beyond her years, moved through the desolation with calculated caution. Her fingers gripped the worn handle of her pistol, a symbol of her relentless determination to survive. She had long learned that the infected weren't the only dangers in this new world.One fateful night, while scavenging in the crumbling ruins of a city, Ellie's path intersected with two survivors whose faces seemed plucked from the pages of a distant history. Christopher, a man with haunted eyes, and Phil, a grizzled survivor marked by the harshness of their reality, emerged from the shadows. Their arrival was unexpected, like forgotten characters from an old, pre-apocalyptic TV show."Who's there?" Ellie whispered, her voice trembling, her finger hovering over the trigger of her pistol.Christopher, his voice tinged with vulnerability, extended an open hand as he said, "Hey, kid. We ain't here to hurt ya."Phil, the embodiment of world-weary strength, added, "Yeah, just lookin' for supplies. You know how it is."Ellie's distrust ran deep, a consequence of a world that had betrayed her at every turn. "I can't trust anyone these days."With gestures that transcended words, they slowly lowered their weapons. In the dim, flickering light of their flashlights, a fragile truce was born.In the days that followed, their strange alliance grew into a remarkable bond. As they navigated the dangers of their unforgiving world, their stories intertwined. They spoke of life before the outbreak, dreams once held dear, and the loss that haunted them all. Their newfound camaraderie became a glimmer of hope in the darkest of times.The story of Ellie, Christopher, and Phil would soon transcend the boundaries of survival. It would become an epic tale of resilience, humanity's enduring spirit, and the inexplicable connections that could form even when the world seemed on the brink of oblivion.

Title: "Survivors of the Twilight" (Part 3)As Ellie, Tony Soprano, and Joel navigated the perilous landscape of the post-apocalyptic world, they encountered another group of survivors who would soon become a formidable threat. Mordecai, a lanky figure with a quirky disposition, and Rigby Benson, his close friend with an affinity for absurdity, led a group of survivors that included Skips, a seemingly ageless warrior, and Muscle Man, a brute with a penchant for mischief.The clash between these two groups was inevitable, as their goals and methods diverged. While Ellie, Tony, and Joel sought only to survive and preserve what remained of their humanity, Mordecai and his band had different intentions.One fateful day, the two groups crossed paths in a decaying, forgotten town. Mordecai and Rigby Benson's group, armed with makeshift weapons and an air of recklessness, confronted our heroes.Mordecai, with an unsettling grin, called out, "Well, well, well, what do we have here?"Rigby Benson, his voice tinged with dark humor, added, "Looks like fresh meat, guys."Skips, a man who had seen generations come and go, remained stoic but ready for action. Muscle Man, with a wicked grin, flexed his impressive biceps.Ellie, Tony, and Joel knew that this encounter was different from any they had faced before. Mordecai and his group weren't just survivors; they were opportunists, willing to do whatever it took to secure their own interests.Joel, his voice gruff and determined, declared, "We don't want trouble. We're just trying to survive."Mordecai's eyes twinkled with mischief. "Survival is so overrated, don't you think?"Rigby Benson, known for his unconventional thinking, chimed in, "We're looking for something more... exciting."The tension between the two groups was palpable. The world had created two distinct paths - one of survival, and another of unscrupulous opportunism. Ellie, Tony, and Joel knew they had no choice but to stand their ground.The clash between the two groups would become an epic struggle, a tale of survival versus ambition, of honor versus cunning. In a world where the rules of society had crumbled, the line between hero and villain blurred, and the concept of justice became a relic of the past.

I am playing the game for the first time after watching the show. However I don't feel spoiled because the show changed enough and kept enough similar that I'm never too sure what will happen next in the game. Maybe that's the same for people watching having already played the game and know the story.
