I thought The Ordinary has the basic/medical packaging so that they can have a lower price point, not to try and look medical, no? People don't use The Ordinary and Cerave because they think the pharmaceutical look means a better product, we use it because we don't have money to burn on other brands. I'd rather buy basic packaging products than pay £50 for the same active because it's pink and sparkly...

I have to say, regarding the “clinical packaging” I generally hear the exact opposite. People turn their noses up at drugstore products solely because they are from the “drugstore” yet praise expensive products like Tatcha etc regardless of whether the Tatcha actually improved their skin. They want to like Tatcha etc ✨because✨ it’s so expensive and they want to show it off a little. And that irritates me.

I feel like lots of skinfluencers misunderstand the Ordinary. The reason the ordinary is packaged like that and formulated like that is so that enthusiasts can buy the ingredient they would like. They don't spend money on detailing what the product does on the label because you're making a compromise for that low low price. Also, the ordinary is part of the Deciem group. If you don't want to find out what ingredient you want, spend time figuring it out, you can click through to their other 2 (or three?) brands which have the packaging, formulations and helpful labels that you want. The cost of this is literally the cost. It's no longer the bare basics, because that's not what you're paying for.
@ShesEvil3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, like if you were irritated by another product in a formulation you can avoid it, The Ordinary is so useful
@gaiafjerda22623 жыл бұрын
Let's not forget that the packaging is made that way to cut costs, and that is one of the main attractive thing about The Ordinary, it is very affordable, it would be more expensive if each and every active had its own type of bottle and label
@thereadersarchive3 жыл бұрын
I just did a video on the ordinary and your explanation is great! I forgot to mention it in my own video but in the comments I said “I saw a deciem worker comment on someone else’s skincare video who used some of The Ordinary products and they said the reason the products are so cheap is because they don’t run ads for their products or advertise it on media like the others do. That way they’re not breaking the bank for marketing the brand. The packaging for the products are simple and plain on purpose to keep costs low also. They believe skincare should be accessible to everyone, not just the ones who can afford it (absolutely love that!). All of their ingredients are thoroughly researched and proven in efficiency so again, the costs are low for that reason. They also ONLY FOCUS on ingredients that WORK. They don’t use unnecessary filler ingredients, so there’s no extra charge for a “filler ingredient” you don’t need and won’t do anything for you.”
@TrappedinSLC3 жыл бұрын
Right, I have stupidly sensitive skin and I love The Ordinary for testing products to see what actives my skin will tolerate without them being mixed up with other stuff.
@AB-ez1eh3 жыл бұрын
@@thereadersarchive I agree it’s nice that TO is cheap bc I’m a college student, but I sort of wonder what they meant w that “filler ingredient” part. Actives are only allowed in certain concentrations so that makes me think maybe every product needs filler to dilute it enough. Like would they consider water filler since it’s not “doing anything?” I may be misinterpreting what they meant by filler ingredient but since TO has had complaints about texture and pilling, I wonder if filler ingredients are actually helpful for a workable texture/good absorption. I like the brand but at the end of the day I have to remember they’re still trying to get me to buy something of theirs over another brand
@marybateman81273 жыл бұрын
Hmmm regarding the comments about single ingredient skincare, I have to say that for very problematic, reactive, and sensitive skin it can vary massively in terms of what it can take. In the middle of a terrible eczema flare up you pare it right down to moisturisers, then begin to reintroduce hyaluronic acid, then a face oil, and only later actives like vitamin c... the benefit of single ingredient skincare is surely in allowing you that flexibility with difficult skin
@TrappedinSLC3 жыл бұрын
Yup. I was just going to say this. I also can only use certain actives on certain parts if need be. Like when my rosacea is really flaring up, I can tweak what I am using on my cheeks and leave out the actives that might be irritating, but still use them on my forehead and chin, without having multiple combination products hanging around.

Totally agree about simplifying skincare routine. I’m attracted to Paulas choice for the reason that there are products under the heading of your skin type or issue, although there are a lot of boosters and treatments available, it is possible to keep it simple with cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise. I’m new to all this and taking it very slowly!

I found using CeraVe once a day for me really helped instead of twice. I have super dry skin but CeraVe was a little to thick for day use and I would get some small bumps on my chin and temples. I now use a more well rounded lighter weight moisturizer in the day and the ceraVe body moisturizing cream on my face in the night and it has been working well. I also use the ordinary so I can supplement my skincare because I react to many ingredients that are commonly used in serums and moisturizers. So the Ordinary gives me the option to use ingredients I cant use otherwise. Everyone is different and I think that's a good message. It'll take time to find what works for you. My friend has oily skin and she would probably have a lot of acne if she used my products and my very dry skin would turn into a raisin if I used hers. Doesn't mean either of our routines are bad, just different to fit our needs. I really only call a product or company bad when they seem intentionally misleading to sell a product.

The best thing I ever did was take your advice about trying Inkey List. I was dithering around with a bunch of single ingredient things and it was stressful and not really working and in some cases just making new problems. I did the skin recipe on the website, bought what they suggested and my skin has never been better. I wouldn't have known about them as a brand if it wasn't for watching you so thanks for that!

In the defense of The Ordinary and their singular approach to ingredients, I actually do like the idea of experimenting with different ingredients on my acne-prone skin with products that don’t have too many variables, if that makes sense? Basically, using simple products with short ingredient lists allow me to identify what ingredient works for me and what doesn’t.

Simplify skincare 2021 plan: Ditch separate peptide serum, find an all-in-one for pih-induced dark spots and anti-aging for daytime use (the new biossance product is a top candidate to try), and figure out an exfoliating regimen. Cerave: The pm lotion for day and skin-renewing night cream are great for me. I also enjoy seasonally rotating though their different face washes for cleansing in the shower. I have not had a reason to try their barrier ointment and hope I never do. I’m the target market for luxe packaging so having Cerave is an outlier brand in my routine.

@@melitay22 I do that with actives and treatments, not so much with cleansers and moisturizers if it just doesn’t feel like they are doing what I need them to. I’ve been trying cerave for 2 months now and it’s honestly doing wonders. I don’t care about the packaging, in the past I’ve used fancy well thought out packaged products and my pocket has suffered many trial and errors.
