1) don’t leave any cleanser on your face. ( rinse better on your hairline etc. ) 2) don’t use toners as cleansers. (if you see makeup coming off when you use toners try double cleansing.) 3) don’t rely on spf in moisturizer and makeup. 4) if you already have a routine that works you don’t need to jump on every trend and try new skincare.

Funnily my skin was always great. Never had breakouts until I started complicating my simple routine. I rarely wear makeup & have gotten rid of so called actives et al. If your food pyramid is colourful enough then you are nourishing from the inside out. Plenty of H2O. The ordinary etc are just jumping on the marketing bandwagon. Keep it really simple everyone. I feel like a huge age cohort is using unnecessary ingredients & overusing same. Let your skin breathe. Wear Spf, wash off same with gentle cleanser and use as rich a moisturiser as your skin can take. Embryolliose is the best. There's a reason french women look amazing. I will start listening to my body again & give what nourishes it.

But skin changes so needs change too right? Like you may finally have the perfect routine for the momment but then suddenly it stops working for you and your on the hunt again. Skin care seems like a never ending journey since skin is extreemly reactive to enviornment, diet and genetics. Meaning it will change easily if any 1 of those things changes. And genetics will always be a factor since we all age and our horomones change as we do.

I’m so happy you mention the issue with trending products. My dermatologist gave me a similar speech after i showed them a photo of all my skin care products. They told me to get results from your skin care products, consistency is key. Testing out different products that are trending will only interrupt your result and create a hoard of products, which in my case was true. I had a ton products that were piling up and were going to waste because I wouldn’t even get through them and just leave them to expire. Plus it’s horrible for the environment. So now I have a set skin care of six products and a few serums I use depending on my skin. And now, instead of buying products I don’t need, I watch your videos to keep up with skin care 😁

I finally got a lovely routine that works for my skin and I will not be ruining it unless it's something that can vastly improve what I have going. The one thing I am terrible with is remembering whether it is a Vitamin C mask day and a Niacinimide serum because I personally don't like combining them on the same night. (There are so many conflicting articles about it but whatever) Vitamin C is so unstable so I don't want to chance breaking it down before it has done any good for my face.

@@schy9614 Totally agree. It takes time but it is a matter of understanding what actives work for you and what delivery system is best for your skin. I also have changed my toner over time to one that includes Willow bark (natural form of salicylic acid) so I do not use so much of other BHA's. It really is a matter of listening to your skin so to speak and not the brands. If you have found the products that work for you there is no need to change unless you find one that can do the same job better, cheaper or more environmentally friendly. I am now probably about 90% K- beauty thanks to James and I honestly think it better than most western brands. Simplicity is really the key! I got my first and worst breakout after trying too much products because I wanted to achieve this "perfect glass skin" that I saw everywhere. Now my routine is just cleanser, snail mucin essence (also can be used as a moisturizer), BHA serum (once a week), SPF gel, and retinol night cream for dark spots (every two days). Sometimes I use benzoyl peroxide when there's acne. My skin has been recovering since then. Acne is gone and the dark spots start to fade.

Double cleansing has really helped my skin. If I wore makeup that day, which I rarely do, I will first cleanse with a balm and then cleanse again with a slightly foamy cleanser. Otherwise I will cleanse twice with the foamy cleanser. I have also stopped using toner bc my skin just doesn’t like it. I invested in a powder SPF from color science, which I will start using tomorrow. I wish I had started using SPF regularly when I was younger but better late than never I guess. I use a retinol from The Ordinary every once in awhile. If I wear it too many times in a row my skin gets slightly irritated. I’m thinking about ditching it all together, I dunno. Thanks for the tip on removing all the cleanser from the hairline with a wet washcloth, I will try to incorporate that step into my routine. I love your videos James! My 2021 goal is to stop picking my face, and to let the skincare work its magic. Plus, it's definitely aging me, and no one likes that. Why invest in skincare if you're just going to destroy your damn face anyway, right?

Same! I generally have clear skin but the moment I get a spot/blackhead/clogged pore something primal in me wants to attack it 😭

Thank you for the video. I need to rinse out my hairline and use sunscreen more around my neck and ears.

Would love to see more products with phas instead of bha and aha ingredients, much gentler on the majority of skin types

My mistake was not first cleansing long enough to get my makeup off properly and forgetting to use it on dry skin before adding water to emulsify. I find makeup with SPF is useful to reapply throughout the day, as its hard to but normal sunscreen over makeup. A lot of cushion foundations are so handy for it

❤️❤️❤️ Yes, this video was so on point! I will try to do more research before buying new products, I feel like my routine works fine, but it is excesive, I use 3 different oils, 3 moisturisers and 2 toners every day (I would love to make it more practical, yet effective, but I don't know how 🙃)

I had really bad hormonal acne, I’ve tried a few products from ‘the ordinary’ and they all play nicely. I no longer breakout, I wouldn’t be happy trying other products when I know what I use works for me. It’s a trial and error when purchasing new products and your skin will tell you what works and what doesn’t.

I always thought "why do people think, you only need a tiny little bit Spf Foundation on your face, when you need a ton of sunscreen on other body parts?". I'm not good with Spf on my face because I'm black and live in Germany - I never really wore spf growing up. It's something I'm doing in the summer because I use AHAs but I tend to forget it in the winter. But I layed my sunscreen infront of my mirror to remind me. I'm guilty of trying out new ingrediens but I've gone back to salycilic acid and gycolic acid because it worked. And I realized that I do need hydration even with my oily skin. I found the ingrediens that worked and look for them in products - I'm not playing around anymore. I still rotate depending on what my skin needs but I'm not going to introduce something new.

I need to stop trying actives in general because my skin gets irritated from almost anything.

Hi James, this really hit me! What I learnt from 2020 going into 2021 is I will keep using my perfectly established skincare routine and (hopefully) not trying anything new this year 😂

Love this 💖💖- nice info about the cleansing, and I totally agree with the use of spf. I started using a natural skincare for about 3/4 months last summer cos so many people were talking about it - and it completely ruined my skin, I’m now trying to get it back 😔gonna stick to what my skin likes rather than ‘new’ from now on xxx 😍😍

Thank you for your videos! For the last 18 months I’ve done cleanse/double cleanse if wearing makeup, tone, serum, eye cream and moisturiser every single day twice a day thanks to you and one other youtubers videos. I keep trying to add other items in, but I’ve managed to keep this routine up due to these videos!

I had always been into skincare from a young age, buying the red stridex pads and the clean and clear and the astringents and all the wrong products for my oily skin 😅 once I started educating myself, I bought all The Ordinary products, and I broke out. I huffed and I puffed and I was so irritated that these products weren’t working for me, I bought CeraVe and I liked their cleanser and moisturizer, but I could never get the right combination of actives to actually HEAL my compromised skin. Eventually, I gave up. I bought Proactiv. I was coming from a severely depressed state and while skincare was an outlet for me, I couldn’t handle the stress of constantly buying the wrong products anymore. I ended up admitting myself for four days to a behavioral health hospital over suicidal thoughts in December of 2019. I came out of it still depressed, still tired, still done, but with a partner who refused to give up on me and showed me what love really was. I had been with him two months before I was admitted, but we had been best friends for over a decade. He helped me more than any medication, any therapist, anything else I had ever tried on my own. He showed me the right books to read, the right supplements to take to avoid Wellbutrin(it helps people, I just don’t want to take medications), exercises and meditations to do to help me help myself. Then, early 2020, right before the lockdown, I recycled all my Proactiv. I tried again. And again. And again. I found James Welsh, and through him Krave Beauty, and learned that LESS is more. I needed to heal my skin before I focused on the nightmare of cystic acne and closed comedones on all my pores of my face. So I stopped actives completely. I bought Great Barrier Relief, the Indie Lee COQ-10 toner, hyaluronic acid, and I focused on healing and hydration even with my oily/combo skin. I spent 4 months just doing that, even with active acne and huge painful cysts under the skin. Then I bought Adapalene. I used that only for about two months. My acne got WAY worse, my skin was dry, flakey, red, disgusting, you name it. But I kept going. Until now. I have PIE everywhere and I still have closed comedones and a lot of blackheads around my t-zone, but it’s a world of difference of what it used to be. I’m now incorporating a Vitamin C during the day as well, since the Adapalene no longer makes my skin dry or sensitive. I’m finally seeing the light. All I needed to do was LESS. So my goal for 2021? Keep doing what I’m doing. Don’t add unnecessary steps to my routine. Keep the healing going, and once I’m fully recovered, I’m going to keep going. Because I know this works for me. I’m 26, this last year and a half was the worst acne I’ve ever faced in my life. I hated myself. But I kept. Going. I didn’t give up. And that’s the only difference between me now, and me in December of 2019. Sorry this is so long. Thank you to anyone that read this. Hopefully it will inspire someone going through a similar situation to stop overworking the skin and focus on healing yourself inside AND out first. Your body needs to be healthy before your skin can be healthy. And for your body to be healthy, you need to heal your mind first. I’m a living testament to that. Liah Yoo is an amazing resource for people just starting out on wanting to start over and heal their skin. If this helps just one person, I’ll be happy. Thanks guys.

I'm keeping my skin care routine this year! I get too bored with it or just don't want to get up before bed to wash my face off etc Not this year! So far, so good.
