One of my favorite country songs of all-time. High Cost of Living is an absolute classic as well. He's a tremendous songwriter who unfortunately is suffering from effects of a TBI and hasn't been able to write much at all the last several years but still actively tours.

This is literally the story of my grandfather's life. He grew up poor on a farm in Tennessee during the Great Depression. He met my Grandmother just before WWII while they both were serving in the Marine Corps. Yes my Grandmother was a Marine back then. My Grandfather fought behind enemy lines and earned the Silver Star. They were married for over 50 years and he loved her until the day he died.

Both of my grandparents grew up in TN during the Great Depression. I remember the government food subsidies showing up in the 60’s when I was a child.

My daughter some years ago took me out for a drive. She played this song and we were both crying our ass off. Her hurt was real! Her best friend, he died from a stabbing helping his friend at a bar in Florence, Kentucky. They use to have life talks laying in the grass late at night. I can’t hardly listen to this song without hurting for my daughter. I’m crying now! Great review. 😢

When I was little any time I was at my mamaws house, I'd pull out all of the photo albums. I did that for years. What I didn't realize until I was older was the amount of joy it brought my mamaw and papaw when I asked questions about the pictures. I could see them going back to the memory. It initiated conversation. My mamaw would ask, "Honey do you remember....?" And then papaw would be off with the stories. Awesome song!

I love this song as I feel I am that grandson. I don't remember grandma or grandpa ever talking about it but I am sure they lived through the depression and my grandfather was stationed in the Philippines during WW2. My grandparents had a picture on the fireplace mantle with grandpa is his military suit and grandma in a dress from their wedding that looks almost Identical to the one in the video.

I’ve never seen anyone else get this, but in the first 2 verses he’s describing the hardships of his life telling you he was scared, the 3rd verse he starts actually describing the colors in the photo bc he’s emphasizing how proud he is of that moment. Really wishing they could have been there and seen it.
