I’m an interior designer. I’d love to see the floor plan. Initially I feel like you would enjoy it open but not the kitchen at the front door. As your kids grow, you will want the kitchen and main area in view of the pool and back yard. I also feel like to honor the style and character of the home, it would be suited so much better to enter the main living when you walk in, but open to the kitchen.

I am not a fan of the open concept. I like a separate living room and kitchen. Open concept means always having to have an Immaculate kitchen because everyone sees it as soon as they walk in. I wouldn’t modernize a Tudor home like that.

We get what you are saying! Our goal is to modernize it while still having elements of the Tudor character. It's interesting because the house was built in 1979, there isn't much "character" like you would expect in a centuries old tudor.

It is great to see you two working so very well together in renovating this house. Doing something like this as a couple is, as I have been told, one of the biggest stresses of a marriage. But you two have done this several times so I am sure you all will do fantastic. As for the kitchen in the front, I am NOT a big fan. But, I am old...sorry, not old, but older (haha) and it is just not my or my wife's style. BUT, you two are young and I agree, many houses these days have that design with the kitchen up front when you walk in.

I’d flip the dining and kitchen. We had a kitchen off the main room and it was noisy. Something to consider. I also think wide open great rooms are starting to become less of a trend especially in bigger homes like yours.
