Just found you! After being in the hair business for 13 years I finally opened my own salon in January. I have a hard time with doing this. I’m not very good with the actual business aspect of it even though I must be doing something right that I’m almost at a year open

For busy people: - The first 6 mins is just bla bla bla. -6:11 she recommends reading "Profit first". - Put all of your money into one account, take out your profit and then use the balance for your expenses. - Have 5 accounts: all income, profit, owners comp, taxes, operating expense account

Wow ! First off I just wanted to say SERIOUSLY THANK YOU SO MUCH for making these videos about your salon and how you run it ! Second , I’ve learned more from your videos about hiring assitant, to managing your finances , to how to open up a salon and so much more than 3 years of business school! You’ve answered every question I’ve had that my professors couldn’t explain in a way that made me really understand which is sad but true . I am so motivated and inspired now to open up my own business and I cannot thank you enough for being the first you tuber that actually breaks down what you need to know about start ups ! Your videos truly inspired me and helped me and I will be buying that book you recommended to help me :)

Ive been doing something similar to this! I usually pay myself always and let my business account amount stay small bc I noticed, like you said, the more money I have sitting in there the more I feel like I can spend but then we forget to actually pay ourselves. Super important topic.

Wow this helped me so much rn!! Im literally going through my first few weeks worth of receipts(just went from employment to studio owner), not knowing where to begin but knowing I DO NOT want to fall behind. Im terrified of spending too much and not putting tax money aside or even just spending too much to make a profit. The last part where you broke down the spreadsheet was absolutely what I needed!! I will say, I wish you mentioned that you get a percentage(be it small) earlier or else I would have gone through your link lol I jumped on amazon as soon as you said the title haha next time!! But hey I just got your helpful insta course on planning out your month and I'm looking forward to sitting down with that next now! Your video was very informative and easy to understand so now I'm not dreading taking these steps towards success! Thanks again, much love!!

It cost thousands to get incorporated.. You’re so smart..... I have no idea what you’re talking about. I tried renting a booth,....went bust....I lost 45 % of my clients....they all moved to different states. ( 2012 Houston’s oil bust) and I couldn’t build new clients....I tried using instagram, google reviews, got 12 5 star reviews on google, and not one new client. So I relocated to Tacoma, working for THE top salon, but they pay lowest commission I’ve ever heard of. This industry is so hard....I want to do color and cutting, but they’re departmentalized. Now i have to move again to another state, start over because of family reasons. So bummed I have to look for a salon and start over again.

I'm sorry to hear that! Instagram is the best way to gain new clientele! I have a program Oh Hot GRAM that goes in-depth teaching HOW to build your dream clientele. The doors close to the program on Monday February 11th at 9pm PST so you'll want to enroll before then. Check out www.ohhotgram.com for more info!

Ordered the book and really going to try implementing these ideas. After 23 years owning my business I've put it up for sale. I feel like I bend over backwards for my renters and eventually they end up leaving. For various reasons. I'd like to be behind the chair less after 33 years but I'm needing to be there more to pay my bills.😔

Love Profit First! I was doing the jar/envelope method online already for money allocation but like you said the priority of taking profits of the top and then tax and then pay myself and then expenses for business made a huge difference. I tore through the book in one day it was such a great easy read for not being a numbers gal up til now. Lol. I borrowed the book from library and it is more fun! So awesome you made this video.

I have a question. I've been commission for a few years as a nail tech. My boss wants to switch to booth rent. She said I can't use her card machine anymore. So I'm wondering what should I use for paying with cards method. I just found your videos like yesterday and was wondering if you have a video to explain just booth rent. I'm not planning to open my own salon just booth rent. I've read cash app or paypal but I live in a retirement town. Most older clientele who pay with cards... I can't tell them to use cash app paypal. I hope what I said makes sense

Hi! Found you through a friend who went to your Ember Retreat!! I want to go next year!! Side note, thank you for this video I just started booth rent! I also sell Monat hair products with my booth rental. Would you track your sales in the same accounts as your salon or would you do that separate? I’m having a hard time with that just because I sell it with my salon, but also separate? Thanks so much!! 😀

Heck yeah! We would love to have you next year. That totally depends on your preference :) I prefer to separate everything.
