Gorgeous. I love the mk3 Astra. I have a 1998 one but not a gsi unfortunately but a 1.6 16v arctic spec with super low 25k genuine miles paperwork proved. as it was owned by a elderly couple from new and at most did 800 miles a year. Its not super quick but its super nostalgic and takes me back to my teens again.

I had one of these same year and colour but the 2.0 red top engine and to date it’s been my all time favourite car, I desperately wish I’d never sold it. Proper car. 👍🏻

Had 2 of those with the c20xe engine. J reg white one and M reg red one. I fitted a c20let & F28 to the red one. Took it to regal in Southampton and had a phase 2 chip fitted 😇 lot's of fun 😻

I bought the one that was in Max power magazine. When it was featured it had an xe on twin 45 Webber carbs. When I bought it it had an c20 let in it with the 5 speed gearbox.

They also offered the late phase 2 cars with a 2.0 x20xe engine. I had a 1.816v engine version that consistantly made over 150bhp. Vauxhall detuned the 1.8 as it out performed the 2.0 engine. They made the cam timing very weak. SBD originally did development on the engine for vauxhall.

They used to stick Calibra turbo engines in the Astra GSI, MAXPOWER day's though..things have changed 🤦‍♂️

I think the Mk3 Astra is the best looking hot hatches Vauxhall ever made. The body kit still looks fresh even today. I never even new they used a 1800 in the GSI range, so news to me and thanks for sharing, another cracking video! In my opinion, a lot of hot hatches/ sports cars built after 2004 ,have lost driving feel and nimbleness due to excess weight, wider tyres and electric steering. Driving older cars especially card from the late 90s to early 2000's feels more fun but slightly dangerous at the same time which adds to the fun. Keep the awesome videos coming! Cheers Jon

Fantastic video mate, I always wanted one of these I did have a 97 2.0 16v sport which was the later ecotec engine around 136bhp they did also use that engine in the later gsi's to was a x20xev was a right laugh to drive and easy to make the tail end wiggle lol

I have one of these Astra’s, mine is a white K reg GSi, 20XE engine, fast road application. I’ve owned 4 GSi’s over the years. If you think your steering is hard and you feel everything in the road,.....you should try mine 😁. Lowered 60mm on GAZ coilovers with a spring rate of 650lbs!!, fully 90ShA polybushed, solid top mounts, strengthened chassis, 17” alloys, fat ARB’s.... It’s a bloody rough ride 😄. Also a deleted power steering converted to manual rack, best feeling on the road, nice n heavy. As you say... It’s all about that 90’s feel 👌🏻. That’s a very tidy Astra you have there 👍🏻

It’s a C18XE! The Z18XE was the Astra G / Mk4 engine for the SXI or SRI variants, best sounding engine for a Vauxhall this the Z series engines sounded gutless even with a Hornet or Irmscher exhaust

Hi mate well I never knew and also I have a 1.6 16v gls 5 foot it seems like there a similar engine but I paid Penny's for it and debating on stripping or repairing as I think the valves have bent but u made me have some faith in the little beast as u said on the b roads at 5000rpm shows it's TRUE pedigree 👌

C18XE!! Z18XE maybe in a corsa c. I love d my C18XE. It was my dream and bought it as a present to my self for my 18th! Mk3 Astra Gsi was and is one of the all time greats!

Yeah they were good 2 litre red top had one myself ! Red lowered with blacked out windows and 17 wolfrace alloys ! Was a awesome car

Na. Don’t agree. The XE was way ahead of its time & much better than any smokey, “bag of bolts” CVH.only the Cosworth had the edge, who funnily had an input in the XE. And as for Honda. The XE was as good, if not better better, than any Honda engine of the era. People are still using XE’s today in their builds. Even seen them in Mk2 Escorts which always makes me chuckle.

@@bugz6234 yup c20xe highly tunable and have alot or restrictions. Especially on the intakes, that's why they get a huge jump in power when people fit itb's to the c20xe engine. Even their cams are mild in the 110/115kw form
