1. How many hours are included in the rental? 9hr is common with 2hr set up and 1hr tear down. 2. Will there be a staff onsite during the event? Day-of-coordinator. 3. Can we have a rehearsal? If so, when? Usually would prefer the night before. Can you have a rehearsal dinner? 4. Are there any noise ordinances? Such as loud music time. Amplified music time. 5. Liability insurance. Liquor permit. Is there a $ requirement? Do vendors need to have it? 6. Do you require a security during the event? 7. Parking spaces. 1 parking for 2 guests. Vendor parking spaces also to be counted. Loading zone. Pertinent question for the vendors. 8. Disability access. Walking surface. Restroom location. 1 restroom for 50 guests. 9. Weather issues. Coat checks. Rain situation. 10. Getting ready locations. Lighting and mirrors. Temperature control. Outlets. 11. What does the light look like? Outdoor lighting for parking lot. Catering area, etc. Dance floor should be dimmed. Are lights dimmable? 12. Access for electricity and power. Outlet for vendors to plug in. Breaker box location. 14. What is the typical layout for the event? DJ, catering, tables. 15. How many events per day? 16. What services does the venue provide? Breakdown? Trash removal? Equipment pick up time? 17. Catering situation. Cooking allowed? Fridge access? Set up place. 18. Do you have alcohol restrictions? Corkage fees. 19. Decor restrictions. Can you hang anything? Can you use the ladder? Liability issue. Rose petals. Confetti. 20. What amenities come with the venue? AV equipments. Chairs and tables.

Something I learned the hard way is that if a venue has a list of caterers they only work with, ask for the list and reach out to them to get the pricing for their services before signing. Just because a venue cost is affordable it doesn't always mean their preferred or required vendors are. We had a venue that was in our allotted venue cost, but their list of caterers all were 60% to 100% of the price of our entire wedding budget.

If they say flowers are included and they show you a GORGEOUS photo album, GET CLARIFICATION on what they offer because you’ll find out the flowers shown in the album are from the venue owner’s niece’s wedding and what they actually offer is a single rose in a cheap vase. Do NOT rely on pictures even at an in-person walkthrough. We passed on that venue because they were too small for our needs, but valuable lesson learned!

Also something to ask is making sure the furniture or lighting that is on site is included in the fee to rent the space. We had the very unfortunate situation happen when we toured our venue, we were told in person that these string lights were included in the rental fee for the barn that we wanted to use but it was NOT noted in our contract. There were general notes on their pricing guide but nothing was written that said the lights were rented or any specific details to note. We didn’t find out until almost a year later.. after we had already allocated the rest of our funds that the lights didn’t even belong to the venue, but to a rental company and there was not only a fee to turn the lights on but then we needed to rent a generator from the rental company for the additional power needed (even though the whole building is covered in solar panels 😑). It resulted an extra $2k of unforeseen costs we were not planning to spend and the venue couldn’t really care less that they messed up and gave us false info. Always be sure to get everything in writing and even then, double check so that it’s clear!

Our venue is a historic house in Glenelg, South Australia, called Partridge House. It's got high ceilings, a beautiful, looming elm tree, gardens and lawns, wheelchair access (thank you for mentioning disability access), a dance floor and comes with a preferred caterer. They allow dried and fresh rose petals, fairy lights, have ample space for a DJ and photo booth. It's shaping up to be an awesome night. Wedding planning can be stressful, but it helps SO much to just ask venues and vendors all the questions.

About to tour our first venue! What I really like about this venue specifically is that the venue rental fee includes everything (no rentals required). They also have bars/restaurant on site, so we simply pick the food options and it is handled in house. This means no coordinating of different vendors for the bulk of the big items. What we are responsible for coordinating is getting a cake, any florals/decorations, photographer, and a DJ or band. This is manageable! Pretty much all other venues I have found have a venue fee and require a wedding planner from their approved list. Then at least half if not all items must be rented from various approved companies. The costs add up super quickly and it is complicated to know with confidence that everything is covered for the big day. Thanks for all the great info!!

I’m helping my brother & sister-in-law with their wedding planning. When being in contact with a DJ, he mentioned that he DJ’ed at the venue they chose, & that the venue doesn’t allow loud music until 10 pm & closes at 12am, because they are a restaurant on the first floor. But it’s a venue deal breaker. My family members are huge partiers & dancers 😢

I am going to speak totally from a photographers point of view but you really have a point here about lighting and about the getting ready room. Lighting is so very important and artificial light for your photos is not always the best. One thing we are noticing is that some venues are going to this "fogged" glass for the windows or they are lightly tinting them. I think this is certainly something to look at. Also, if you want reception shots and have pink lights going everywhere making the room bright pink then you might as well expect that it is going to have an impact on your photography. Great video! Check prices. They are all over the board. We checked far and wide for the right venue. We thought moving the event out to the country would save, but it didn't. Then we thought moving towards the water would be way expensive, but it wasn't always. Everyone had different things included. I found doing the comparison to be overwhelming. I had to get prices of catering and rentals to make sure I wasn't making a mistake by booking a place with less included.

We have our venue penciled in, needed to get insurance and the deposit taken care of and thanks to you, Jamie, insurance was secured today! It is an outdoor spot (Bilger’s Rock, PA) with a covered pavilion. Alcohol is not permitted within the Park so that makes that easy, and meets the needs of two VIPs who’ve overcome issues in that department. I am organizing this remotely (from Canada) and my fiancé is my boots-to-the-ground recon man, and I have to say, he’s been awesome. Great signs of the team work to expect within our marriage. I am super excited ❤

😂 what if we can walk properly in stilettos after a couple/few drinks? Personally, I tend not to base others' abilities off of mine, because I'm super unique (friends and fam have literally called me an alien). If professional makeup artists can't do their job properly in the "dark," then something's wrong... For graduation I had to do my makeup in a dark corner with a pocket mirror because all the vanities were crowded. I got so many compliments on it, even throughout the entire night at the grad party, which lasted til 5-6am, got to post a cute selfie after I got home later that next morning too (makeup still intact, even tho I was sweating the entire time).

Hopefully you already found what you needed. My friends got married on a public beach. It was very casual. We through a blanket down for the couple and pastor to stand on. It was pretty. It was also cold as it was out of peak season. Keep in mind beaches are normally public. These annoying gockers stood in between the couple and the ocean taking pic, so it was hard for the wedding photographer to get pic of the couple without those yahoo's in the background. Keep the tide in mind too if you're going to have chairs or anything set up. Likely now power without generators and some beaches might have rules about running a generator. Bathrooms could be a challenge, and if you get port-a-potty. The public may try to use it. Also. The companies the porta potties may only want to deliver and pick them up on certain days. Ask them to stake them down, so kids aren't tempted to tip them over. The only other thing I can think of is that sometimes the distance from the car to the water may be a long ways of walking on loose sand.

I'm so stressed about FOOD that it's been very hard for me to commit to a venue. Does anyone have any tips on how to encourage hotel venue to step it up when it comes to food? I'm so afraid my food will turn out bland. Disclosure: I am getting married in a city that isn't at all my first choice; a place that is know for a very specific regional "cuisine" that I don't necessarily care for.

For us it was all about location and pricing as we are on a tight budget! We managed to get church ceremony (with bell ringers 🥹) reception venue is across the road from the church with 65 for a 3 course sit down meal, we have a private bar, waiters and staff, cutlery ect included, evening buffet/platters for 60 additional eve guests - UK Inc day of coordinator, tables, linens and prosecco toast for everyone for under £5,000, we also have x8 toilets available for private use! The place where our reception is also a hotel so we can all stay there the night of too which is a brucey bonus 😬❤️
