I really don't have much and Im just a cleaner. I get a bit of money from the gov for a liver transplant I had a while ago. But when I see anyone looking like they are having a hard time or homeless, I will give anything I have. I gave my last $5 to a man outside the laundromat and settled with 2min noodles for the next few days. He appriciated that $5 so much he had tears in his eyes 😢. We need to help each other out, even if you can only give a little.. It may mean so much to someone..

You are amazing, Tara! I just wanted to encourage you, sis. Although we may not be that far off from the poverty line ourselves, our Father in Heaven sees the good deeds you do when you think no one is looking. Proverbs 19:17 ”Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.“ (ESV‬‬) Mark 12:41-44 41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” I could go on, but I’m sure you understand the references. Sometimes, I have to encourage myself, when I give so much of myself to help others in need and think, “how can I give out of the little that I have?” and “Why do people take advantage of my kindness? “ Then I meditate on the Lord’s word and remind myself that our reward is not just in earthly blessings (if that); but it is eternal in the building of God’s kingdom. If Yeshua could bless the 5 loaves and 2 fishes, to feed 5000; or if he can feed the birds of the air, then he can certainly be Yahweh our provider and value us more so. I pray God’s blessing over your life. May you live a long and prosperous life, and be blessed in all that you put your hands to. In Yeshua (ישוע) name 🙏🏾 ✝️

There are a few homeless people in my area and I sometimes stop and talk to them and giving what money i have and to see if I can offer any advice as well. I can never pass them especially when they say they are hungry that's heartbreaking every single time. I never understand our government they will help people coming into the country but yet the people who are homeless and hungry living here they ignore..

Lived in Surry Hills for 10 yrs saw all this daily...especially at night you see the true extent. Me and my family fed the homeless in Woolloomooloo under the bridge in a courtyard shared with the police station. Affordable housing shortage is one problem but having the landlords keep rents low for residents is another problem. No straight up answer to fixing the problem...you have some homeless who have jobs, just cant afford rent and bond.
@Psyopcyclops
@Psyopcyclops Жыл бұрын
That’s weird as hell. I grew up in Woolloomooloo, and now live in Surry Hills lol. What a weird coincidence. Anyway, all those homeless people there in Woolo are due to the Matthew Talbot Hostel always being way over capacity, so they live in and around the hostel and under the bridge near the cop shop. Never had many issues with them growing up. They’re just old goomies, and some of them are really nice people. It’s not as bad these days as it used to be. But it’s still not great. They need to rebuild the hostel, or add another one IMO.

In the past I was uninformed and made judgements in my head of why someone may be homeless, but gave since learned a great deal through St Vinnies and it was very surprising and eye opening. There are hundreds of great causes to support and unrealistic to support them all, but find something that resonates with you and help out if you can.

I agree. There are so many virtue signallers out there - 'no one should be homeless - it's not their fault - it could happen to you someday', yet in all seriousness, what are these blokes doing to actually help themselves ? I hear a lot of paranoia and blaming the government, but what are they ACTUALLY doing to help themself? People need to stop enabling and start actually asking themself, 'would I offer housing to this particular type of person? would I take them into my home? would they be able to pay their way?' The only genuine person there that I would have all the time of the day to listen to is the gentleman who lost his child. I can resonate with his loss due to having lost a child myself. I truly wish him the best for his future.

I've been homeless and if it wasn't for the kindness of one person taking me in for 6 months I never would've had the chance to get back on my feet. Honestly it can easily happen to any of us. These people are just like you and me, they are us and I would love to see more done to help them - and me should it ever happen again. But for now I'm working and renting my own place. I work hard because I know I'm lucky, but that doesn't mean it can't happen again when I don't have much in the way of savings and if the work runs out. The question it's important to ask ourselves is this: How would you react if the things that happened in their life happened to you? Would you be resilient enough to bare the storm? How would you go without a support network of some kind? We're not all blessed with the same good fortune. Please gov, do something useful with our tax dollars instead of spending $58 billion on used nuclear submarines.

@@rshenanigans like not putting ANYONE in the one box at all but that is a major problem. Drug addiction is very much alive in Australia sadly. It also seems there is less and less government funded help the last few years for EVERYTHING especially homelessness and drug/alcohol abuse. It's sad and I'm not saying it's 100% anyone's fault being homeless Yes part is the consequences of the individual but alot of it is the lack of help from government and community service type things. It's not just one issue alone that results in homelessness. Especially these days in Queensland we are the only state that has risen in population from everyone moving from Melbourne and NSW especially since after COVID. And the housing is another major problem. Some people are then turning to drugs as a result of losing and not being able to find homes and losing jobs etc as there is less and less as the more people move here

@@TheLocalGent Thanks for your reply. There is no way that I would deny that some are capable of overcoming addiction. I would contend, however, that in every case, no one chooses to pursue an addiction, but rather they fall into addiction. Nobody does a drug and says to themselves, "Yeah, I'm going to make this my life, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year. Nobody. We kid ourselves that we're "just trying it". Gee, back in the good old days, you just used a bit of gear to get you over the "drought" didn't you? Some got through the drought, some didn't. Government policy and community services may or may not help. That comes down to the individual. The biggest challenge for users, these days, as I see it, is the lack of family support. A lot has changed in the last three decades, in that respect. My mates from back in the "good ol' days" are either dead, rehabilitated, or I've written off because they turned into assholes. My best mate makes the same choice that you do, everyday. He still smokes bongs like he's the ghost of Bob Marley, but he's three years off the gear. You've got to take your wins where you can. Good luck!

Sometimes it's not by choice,people shouldn't assume that because someone is homeless,it's because of drugs,that's not the case.some people are homeless because there isn't enough rentals, resources to help out ,some people are even working and still can't find a house to rent.

That part about we have all lot our way at some point but had the resources and people to bounce back is so accurate. I used to binge drink at 18 and got into a violent relationship. And despite me growing out of drinking entirely by the time I was 20 the damage was done. My partner at the time threatened my life if I left so I was terrified and developed trauma, but eventually I did leave. I was mentally messed up from the experience and I ended up homeless for a while fearing he would find me. Now you wouldn't believe it but I'm back at university and I can see life for others is far easier and even for myself now that I got on my feet. Many people from tough backgrounds are capable people. But don't know how to ask for help, because usually you learn as a child with absent or abusive parents you can't. It may seem obvious for a healthy person but for a person struggling the little things like reaching out seem like climbing mountains. ❤

What’s the attraction of inner city Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane for the homeless? Why not head to regional areas where there are more jobs (i.e opportunities for a fresh start) and the cost of living and housing is more favourable?

@@TheMike12101990 the general theme of these comments suggests most of them just want something for nothing. With that kind of attitude, they’ll most likely spend their days on the streets. If this is true, I find it hard to feel sorry for them. I really believe if they wanted to make a better life for themselves, they wouldn’t need to look too far for an opportunity

They blame everyone but themselves for why they have hard lives and spend their entire existence hiding from anyone they perceive to be someone who may be in a position to potentially be able to hold them to account , and deliver the the hard home truths to them. Basically, by that I mean by being high in a park as apposed to at work/education like every other responsible adult.

How can we let in immigrants from other countries when we have no accommodation for Australians and the cost of rent.Its disgusting that there are 18,000 children under the age of 12 homeless and women with children sleeping in cars, bloody terrible.over 100,000 vets that fought from the Vietnamese war until Iraq with many committing suicide from mental health issues, shame on the GOVERNMENT, look after home first….😢😢😢

Do NOT give money to homeless people or beggars in Australia. EVERYONE can get Centrelink. And don't buy their bullshit story they can't get Centrelink without an address, because there ARE ways around it like charities who allow them to use their address to receive mail. They can also rent a tent site in a caravan park for ONE night, list that as their address, but redirect mail with Australia Post to a nearby PO Box. And if they use mygov they'll receive all email instead of mail anyway. Also, homeless people have more spare cash than someone working or paying rent. Think about it... They get the same welfare payments everyone else can, but have no rent, no electricity bills, no water bill, etc and the list goes on. They also get free cooked meals from charities, a couple of bags of free canned goods from the Smith Family every week, who will also pay their bills if they can prove their bank account has a low or zero balance, and the many other freebies they learn about. I should know. I lived in government housing for 10 years and saw all the tricks and lies they tell people outside of that circle to deceive them into giving even more spare cash to these parasites. I'm not talking about the ones who live in tents only because they can't get a rental... I'm talking about the ones who beg, put up signs with sob stories about being homelessness means they need more money. NO THEY DON'T. They already have more spare cash than you do, so DO NOT give them even more to spend on grog, cigarettes, McDonalds & KFC, drugs, etc. Don't be a sucker!

I understand the problem and unfortunately i don’t have any solutions… but i feel that the common person turns a blind eye because most just sit, do nothing but hold a cup. I feel that if they could maybe think of ways they can give back to the community, then potentially the community would be more engaged in supporting them… just a thought…

Squatting is an Australian tradition. The last time Australia had a “housing shortage” (the rich owned multiple houses) the only way it was solved is by the rich begging the government to sort out the squatting situation - the government has always paid more attention to the rich than the people.

Australia doesn't have a housing crisis, the only problem is that everyone wants to live in the same 5 cities. Can't find a house in Sydney? Go work as a cleaner in the mines in WA or pick potatoes in QLD. Too hard right? Is easier being homeless and spending Centrelink money (that respectable people fund by paying taxes) on drugs and alcohol. In many other countries, people don't get any help from the government, finding any kind of job is almost impossible and there is really no space to build new houses. These entitled losers are living their lives waiting to get help from someone else. You made your bed, you lie on it. I will never ever help homeless people in Australia, I'd much rather help people in a poor country, people who struggle to put food on the table and won't use my money to get high.

But it makes us feel so much better about our own existence, doesn't it? We pat ourselves on the back for going to school, doing the "right thing" and managing our finances. And we use it as a hold on our kids: "Look at him, if you don't do well at school and get a good job, you'll end up just like that". While in the meantime we do nothing to improve the education system and we do little to improve the outcomes for our children. We trade their futures like it's a commodity. We watch our house go up in value, month on month, and we think to ourselves "I'm doing alright". We watch immigration going through the roof and pat ourselves on the back, once again, with pride, as we welcome another how many million people to a country that can't house its own. "Oh, isn't multiculturalism wonderful, I'm making the world a better place". We build bridges to carry yet more traffic, yet we forget about building houses and communities, yet we call it progress. At least we have more bridges for the homeless to live under. We call ourselves "social progressives" as we call for increasing the financial burden on landlords, forgetting that they are leaving the market in droves and thus leaving more people homeless. We praise the "free market" like a demi God. But nothing's free in the free market. We kid ourselves. All homeless are homeless by choice. Our choice. Gen X and Boomer generation choice. Volunteering is commendable. But the faults that we have to address lie in our values and our economy.
