I was really into Jamiroquai and the acid jazz genre. There were a lot more acid jazz bands besides Jamiroquai, but I think that Jamiroquai was the only acid jazz band signed to a major label (Sony) and probably one of the only ones to have mainstream hits. Some other notable ones are James Taylor Quartet, Incognito, Brand New Heavies, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Groove Collective, Medeski Martin & Wood, and one of my favorites, Rose Ann Dimalanta who was a keyboardist for Prince's New Power Generation and who fronted the band Rad.

Just stumbled upon this post. 29 years ago,i popped along to Cardiff Uni,to see a very young JK, perform with a big white smoke in one hand, and a mic in the other, wearing the original wollen hat,for £10 per ticket. What an absolute stormer of a night that was. He was our chill out from the rave scene, but somehow intertwined with it. So to hear that Dad bod,so much like my own, just belt out a voice unchanged by time on this clip, put a massive smile on my face. JK is an absolute legend. Love him ❤

I'm so glad to see that Jay Kay is still able to perform live despite the awful spine injury he suffered several years ago. Definitely one of the best bands I have ever seen.

His first CD (Emergency on Planet Earth) came out way before the internet and what a hell of time it was to figure out what the name of that band was! Jamirowhat? They were even booked in a small festival in the Belgian village I used to live in. Of course, they didn't show up after they signed a contract with Sony 🙂

Feels like I was born late for Jamiroquai, but not too late. Really hope that I could attend his next concert.
