Rumor has it this was dedicated to Stuart Zender for leaving the band hastily and in bad terms. We'll probably never get to know the whole truth, but if that is so, man, this is song is a strong "I don't ever want to see you again" message to end the relationship. No hope of a reunion anytime soon!

Jamiroquai Lyrics "King For A Day" There's no way I'm coming back to you I've just got to say That everything we did is through You tried to undermine The better ranges of my nature But soon your going to find You should have started talking straighter Now don't you worry I won't put you down I'm in no hurry, baby To see you go to ground Because it's true what they say You know it's true what they say Your only king for a day I guess your happy that way Well there's no hope For peace and reconciliation You're quick to play your hand But what you haven't learnt is patience So look before you leap To tell the world your coloured story It's clear your talk is cheap You'd do anything to get your glory So spread your wings and fly There is no doubt You're so sorry inside you've got something to shout about Because it's true what they say You know it's true what they say You're only king for a day I guess you're happy that way And there's no love Ever to be lost between us I guess this is because The damage that you've done is so grievous So I hang my head To dwell on what might have been But what you left instead Is pieces of a broken dream Now don't you worry I won't put you down I'm in no hurry To see you go to ground Because it's true what they say You know it's true what they say You're only king for a day I guess you're happy that way So spread your wings and fly There is no doubt You're so sorry inside you've Got something to shout about Because it's true what they say You know it's true what they say Your only king for a day I guess you're happy that way Don't you see that your only king for a day You must believe that..

Wow I've just read up on the supposed inspiration for this song. Makes it even more haunting and full of suppressed emotion. We try to make out that we''re glad somebody has left and that we're better off without them, but in reality loosing a close friend is almost as painful ( sometimes more) than losing a great love. "The damage that you've done is so grievous"...says it all. I adore this track from the lyrics to the instrumental twist and Jay does look good as a scruffy gentleman ;)

Yeah, it's crazy that this masterpiece was essentially a diss track for the leaving members. Out of respect, I won't mention their names, but it's quite an intentional move that there are no bassists in this period production.
@blas_de_lezo73752 жыл бұрын
@@biecostring5930 disagree but its a matter of taste. I got into jamiroquai with travelling without moving and have listened to all the albums. The first two feel the most timeless. As far as i know stuart was involved in the songwriting of the first 3. Later albums still have great songs but are not so consistenly good.
@youtubinganonymous22 жыл бұрын
"replaceable"??? Stuart Zender was an intergral part of the funky soulfulness of the first three albums. That's why the sound "changed" when he left. The sound further transformed when Toby left after the following album. Space Cowboy, Cosmic Girl, Travelling Without Moving, Mr Moon, Manifest Destiny, and many more all have Zender's signature rebellious, eclectic imprint on them. Nick Fyffe was good, Turner is competent, but Stu definitely had that bass magic.
