- It was removed from the last episode but you learn that the springs that Urahara created are based on Tenjiros (Like the Spring we saw when Yoruichi revealed her human form that Ichigo was recovering in) -Unohana being a Kenpachi was heavily foreshadowed throughout the entire series, it's the reason why squad 11 members were so afraid of her, It's why Aizen knew she'd catch on to his lie, and why even Captains like Shunsui and Ukitake feared her. (Another cool bit is that Aizen tried to seal Unohana and Kenpachi in Hueco Mundo to avoid them until he was immortal) -This is our 1st time hearing Unohana's real first name, which is Yachiru, the same name Kenpachi gave to his Lieutenant when he found her. If you go back to that scene, Kenpachi said it's the name of someone he admired. Unohana's fake name was even a Hint "Retsu" means Violent in Japanese -Buff Kon was another comedy bit removed from the last episode, so it may feel a bit random here. -Given Kirio's words before they left her Palace, we now know that every Squad 0 member has done something that hugely affects how the Soul Society operates. Kirio made Gikon or Artificial Souls, and she says Ouetsu Made Zanpaktou, it's cool to wonder what the others invented. -It's cool to see the politics with Shunsui, it shows a stark difference between him and Yama. Yama simply upheld the law, as long as peace was the goal he honestly didn't care much...but Shunsui is a bit different, more experimental, and he's willing to do things that Yama would never do. Important note! As Kirio states, it's a requirement that anyone who is to be considered for squad zero, must contribute something of historical value to the soul society. For Kirinji, it was his healing hot springs and basically the development of healing kido, for Kirio it was the development of the Mod soul technology, and for the next member, he created the Zanpakuto. It's not just enough to be strong or skilled in combat. To join squad zero, you must contribute something deeply important to the identity of soul society.

That’s not why Aizen left nor was Aizen was worried about her there were only two people he was worried about. Aizen before absorbing the Hogyoku admitted Yamamoto was stronger and he probably would win in a straight up fight and then he was weary about fighting kenpachi true potential until he was immortal. He wasn’t scared or worried about unohona Aizen doesn’t mind admitting stuff or given compliments only when their valid. he blatantly tells Unohana after he cuts down toshiro I have no need to hide from anyone when she tried to say he hid in the living quarters after he faked his own death and if Unohana was really stronger than him she would of took him out then and there but she didn’t and Aizen left because he needed to proceed with his plans. Multiple instances Aizen says that Yamamoto is only person stronger than him and only other person he is weary of is kenpachi if he got his full potential back he clears everyone in the gotei 13 easily not named Yamamoto as he’s comparable to two armed shikai Yamamoto being capable of taking attacks with minimal damage and piercing his skin and we know that Yamamoto with one arm is the strongest member of gotei 13 bar none as by bleach unmasked and other databooks. Another thing is that kisuke urahara in the CFYOW novels is stated by tokinada to one shot guys like him. And tokinada is equal and comparable to the nobles including TYBW byakuya, yoruichi and isshin and that version of byakuya scales above the likes of shikai kenpachi with out his eye patch being able to damage an enemy he couldn’t and we know shikai kenpachi is way above unohona. Then That same kisuke urahara then goes up against a Fullbringer named Aura michibane who on the same level on power as base Sōsuke Aizen, kisuke urahara does well against her using high level kidos like 99 but she beats kisuke urahara up. Kisuke being stated to one shot guys like tokinada is major thing and aura says to tokinada now that something other than Aizen is using kyoka suigetsu it has another weakness besides touching the blade before your put under hypnosis it’s that it can be negated with vastly superior spiritual pressure which if he was on Aizens level then they wouldn’t have been able to seal his Zanpaktou. Aizen wasn’t worried about her in the slightest some of you don’t realize how op base Aizen was. That he scales above tybw byakuya who able to damage an enemy shikai Kenpachi couldn’t .

In Chapter -108 and episode 206 (the turn back the pendlum arc) she is mentioned by Shinji, Love and Shunsui to be the captain of the 12 squad who just got promoted to zero squad which is why Kisuke was then promoted to take her place. I think they also mentioned that she and Hiyori had a close almost Mother-daughter relationship (even though they were not related) which is also why Hiyori had her problems accepting Kisuke.

Kenpachi is a title given to the strongest it's not a surname plus she changed her name to yachiru to retsu cause now she's incharge for squad 4 which is specialized in healing now if you go back to the 7th episode you'll see in the flashback where Yamamoto and yhwach were fighting she was there too so you can say she's as old as yamamoto and she earned the title kenpachi because she's ruthless she has killed millions of people that's why she's know as the first kenpachi.

Aizen would have detroyed Kenny in Soul Society-Arc and would have won vs Unohana too.. However.. The main problem Aizen had with Unohana at the Spirit Court was time. The time he would have needed to fight her and win was no where to find. Because he KNEW Unohana was the 2nd(3rd if you count in Aizen himself) stronget after Yama at that moment in Soul Society.

Also notice how Kyouraku's first act as Head Captain is, basically, pit the two of them against each other, with only one surviving. Don't ever forget about how shady the Soul Society can be because it'll be very important way into the future (Aizen already gave a strong hint when he was sealed by Urahara).

While many feel like this plot twist seemingly came out of nowhere, Conversely throughout the series, Unohana was foreshadowed a few times despite her gentle personality and maternal figure of soul society. 1. Her braided hairstyle that she’s always wore at the front of her chest was to cover her scar. 2. She was the only one who saw through Aizen’s hypnosis and that he gave credit to for doing so back in soul society, fleeing from her knowing that if he fought her it would’ve been trouble, a death match for him. 3. Shunsui and Ukitake as senior captains were shown being scared of/creeped out by her in the turn back the pendulum/Vizard flashback arc, as well as others being nervously afraid when she makes an eerie serious smile, which was only meant to be seen as a gag initially. 4. She the 2nd oldest after Yama and last remaining member of the OG 13 court guard squads just now revealed. Needless to say it was a plot twist and a half that was subtly built up as a lady of the sword as a great character that just happens to be a lady: A Blood Prime Death Goddess. Fun Fact: Unohana is the only female character in this series with no fan service, that is beneath her. An Epitome of a woman above men, the kind that makes the best out of them, just like Krista Sudmalis who invented the GigaChad.

Kenpachi does not use kendo because enemies die very quickly, only on the verge of death he resorts to techniques like he did with the 5th espada. And Unohana meant that when they fought for the first time, he as a child was already stronger than her, and in order to enjoy the battle, he subconsciously limited his strength. Therefore, the fact that he does not fight to the fullest is her sin.

The Unohana reveal has been hinted at since VERY early on in the series. 1. Everyone, even Captains powerful as Shunsui and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her. 2. Her fake name, Retsu, means "violent" or fierce", hinting at her true nature. 3. In the SS arc, she is the first Captain to notice something is off about Aizen's death (even while under complete hypnosis. When she arrives in the Underground Meeting assembly area after Aizen waxes Hitugaya, he acknowledges that he thought she would be showing up soon. 4. If you recall Kenpachi's backstory flashback from the SS arc, he tells Yachiru that he named her after the one person he admires and respects. The First Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru is that person. 5. Even from the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, which is second only to Aizen and Yamamoto who both have a total of 560/600. Her special ability was also listed as kenjutsu, NOT healing.

Kenpachi is a title not a name. Remember some characters don't have a family name, their "last name" is the place the came from (town/village). Byakuya does have a last name and so does rukia when she got adopted by the family

Not my post but I figured you'd wanna know some tidbits about our Queen Unohana The Unohana reveal has been hinted at since VERY early on in the series. 1. Everyone, even Captains powerful as Shunsui and Ukitake are shown to be afraid of her. 2. Her fake name, Retsu, means "violent" or fierce", hinting at her true nature. 3. In the SS arc, she is the first Captain to notice something is off about Aizen's death (even while under complete hypnosis). When she arrives in the Underground Meeting assembly area after Aizen waxes Hitugaya, he acknowledges that he thought she would be showing up soon. 4. If you recall Kenpachi's backstory flashback from the SS arc, he tells Yachiru that he named her after the one person he admires and respects. The First Kenpachi, Unohana Yachiru is that person. 5. Even from the first databooks, her total combat ability score was 540/600, which is second only to Aizen and Yamamoto who both have a total of 560/600. Her special ability was also listed as kenjutsu, NOT healing.

Unohana Yashiru vs Zaraki Kenpachi...the first Kenpachi vs the current one...one of the 5 big moments I wanted to see so badly animated in that arc and it doesn't disappoint ! The battle of the Kenpachi's...what is gonna come out of this room will be an unstoppable killing machine forge by battle of pure instincts...it's savage and glorious at the same time ! Can't wait for episode 10 !!!

You guys are forgetting... Unohana is also a healer, she's the 1st kenpachi for a reason he wants to keep her enemies heal so that she can enjoy the fight and made them suffer. That's why when she cut his throat, He's already healed and zaraki forgets and doesn't remember it.

The reason that one of them has to die if they fight for real is really deep and covering a lot of layers . What mostly I don't see covered is going back to the roots of how Kenpachi title is being passed over .. the only way is if a contender beats the current kenpachi in a death battle and since Unohana is still alive and the OG Kenpachi it means that while Zaraki is the official , she is still technically THE Kenpachi which means Zaraki has to beat her in a death battle to become stronger and establish himself as THE Kenpachi . The lore on this one is really deep and AMAZING !! I love the dramatic music which makes this battle like a theatrical poem , which makes it even more AMAZING ! This has to be yet the best fight in Bleach when it comes to lore and art style !! P.S. : Can't wait to see mommy's Bankai next week !!

so what happened at the end when unohana stabbed kenpachi through the throat, she did kill him, she just revived him bc he gets stronger every time he gets close to death or dies, this was also explained by kisuke in the first arc when he was training ichigo, a soul reaper becomes stronger when they are on the verge of death, but its not the same with kenpachi, the whole kenpachi getting stronger thing will probably get explained next episode, i havent read the manga in so long so i forget
