I had a meta two years ago and agree with all of that. The pain at first was fucking horrible, pooping ugh, and the catheter was the worst thing on earth! I had the uretha lengthening, but it was still horrible. I also had an urinal infection because of it so it was even more painful. Honestly, that surgery was probably the hardest thing I have gone through in my life. I'm only 25, but I really dont think I will go through something as hard physically and mentally again. I just can't imagine it. However I do not regret it one bit and I am very happy with the results now (after having some complications some months later and getting it fixed). Just fair warning for people wanting the surgery. Be ready for it to be hard.

After my hysterectomy (which didn't affect the outside bits at ALL), bowel movements were nearly impossible it was so painful. Like, when you're freshly missing organs right beside where your bowels exist and those bowels have to MOVE to push something out, it is a whole new hell that I was not at all prepared for. The pain meds were not nearly enough, besides the fact that they also make you more constipated. I feel like there has to be a better option.

If you don’t mind blood and stuff, I had to have knee surgery and I found it super helpful to go online and watch an educational type video of a DR showing and explaining each step of the surgery. It took away a lot of my anxiety knowing exactly what was going to be happening to me and my body.

@@matthews8838 Hey, I have heart surgery before and that's something I am used to - I am very nervous about top and lower surgery though. I will just say that honestly, it is normal to feel frightened, anxious and afraid because it is such an abnormal situation but the doctors are really skilled and can really look after you. It is almost a case of psyching yourself up and reminding yourself you're going to be okay. Do pros and cons too and look at whether the cons of surgery are short term things like fear, discomfort and pain and whether the pros are long term things such as feeling better in yourself. It may not help but I found it helped me with rationalising all my heart operations.

I find it interesting that I'm a transwoman yet I find your videos to be amazing and inspirational and can relate to a lot of what you talk about. I plan on having bottom surgery but I am still only about three months into estrogen and my doctor is still waiting to start me on t-blockers(newer research show delaying the t-blockers result in better breast development, apparently) so it still feels like it's so far away, yet I keep pushing each day and try to enjoy this weird early stage of my transition as much as I can. Just knowing that others have gone through exactly what I'm going through(transwomen as well as transmen) makes me feel hopeful for my own transition.

Awhile back, I watched a documentary about transgender people, which included information about gender affirming surgeries. It was so interesting, and really neat!!! That was like 2004/5, on an airplane of all places. Transgender was still a fresh concept to me, but I went into it with no biases. It was really beautiful because it’s like we are all equal, and made of the same bits, so why not support people in their process? I really love that people can transition - we have come so far 💜💜💜

I had a cyst on my tailbone as a teenager. I was told I would have a tiny scar with a couple stitches. I woke up from surgery and I felt like I was hit by a car. It turned out I have several cysts from the tip of the tailbone to my mid back. Since its tissue the xray didnt see it and only one actually felt like an external lump. I had in excess of 100 stitches and a drain. At the hospital I was at they had never seen this. They kept parading in interns and nurses to look at it. I had to be on my belly for a couple days with a pillow under my groin. I was on iv fluids only for 3 days post OP. There were times a dr would come in with a colleague and compliment on how nicely it was stitched. Meanwhile I had scarring so bad and the tube made it bump up like a ridge. It was so awful. I was getting close to my 16th birthday and it impacted my self esteem greatly. Back with this was done teens had way less options , the parents usually made the choices. Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference but if for sure was the worse thing I'd dealt with.

Kind of reminds me of things you didn’t get told about child birth. When you described all these people scrutinizing your perineal and pubic areas that’s like when you have a baby. Only of course it’s a very different overall outcome for sure. I found I was more concerned about my babies than my own well-being after both. The hospital wouldn’t let me go home until I peed and pooped and both were scary after delivering my first baby. My second baby was an emergency c section. It wasn’t as bad really as a normal delivery like with my first child. Then of course you have a very tiny mini human to learn to take care of! Considering the nature of your reports you’ve done a nice job without getting too graphic here. Wishing you good luck with your new you!

I really don't mean to be disrespectful or cause anyone discomfort, but it's incredible to me how much the experience of medically transitioning sounds like my pregnancy and birth. Everything about changing bodies, not recognizing yourself or knowing how to feel about yourself, the incredible invasions of privacy... I'm still recovering from my pregnancy and cesarean, but it sounds like a finished and healed surgical process is exactly as wonderful and relieving as giving birth and getting my body back, plus a wonderful new tiny human, was for me. As a cisgendered male with all of my original equipment, I can tell you having your nutsack tapped or brushed is often much more gut wrenching than a direct impact. And considering the surgery you've had and hormones and stuff I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't feeling some of those same reactions now I know it was just postsurgery and this is an old video so you may have even figured out some of this but some of that sensation you describe totally sounds like getting my junk sideswept. Some of my sis gendered female friends have described a similar sensation with their breast tissue which you may be able to confirm or deny since you've been down that road before. The sensation is described by a direct impact opposed to sideswiping on my cis female friends has been slightly differently described. And from what I understand of your transition it just sounds like you're going through a lot of these things as a man mechanically because now a sideswipe to your chest I'm guessing doesn't hurt anymore but a direct impact does and with your genitals you're asleep experiencing the same in reverse or more male mechanically. Considering that all people and they may not understand this nearly as well as someone who transitions but a penis is essentially a clitoris and please excuse me but your clitorus become a penis essentially structurally different perhaps but nerves the same.... aren't that much different and essentially are the same tissue Anyway just some thoughts and thank you very much for sharing your story it has been a wonderful eye opener to me an understanding friends that have different gender journeys then mine and has greatly enriched my life not to mention I've continued to spread my understanding. For me restructuring my gender and pronoun habits were harder than understanding emotionally or intellectually but I had to do the same as I entered puberty and realized that my orientation was not the mainstream as it became more about unlearning than learning. Thank you for being so candid because these conversations are the ones that really lead to evolution. Empathy is a power tool but you gotta get nitty gritty. And this is gonna sound completely gross but I hope you laugh and I just thought of it good luck with your power tool. Total tongue in cheek E. I wish there was an emoji con for that. Please please forgive any spelling errors or rambling 'cause I use some voice to text software and on top of that I just smoked some hemb derivatives that are legal in my state. a final thought, neurologically your bioelectric structure was male before birth even if your secondary characteristics didn't end up that way, this makes me think that you're hardwired for a kick in the groin sack and lucky you know you get to experience it. When you were more female structure perhaps you experienced a kick to the grind but I can tell you even with prosthetic testicles I guarantee it's gonna feel worse laugh out loud lucky you and congratulations because I can already tell or seed the relief you are experiencing because of this step in your transition and I can understand the basic idea being or feeling more like yourself. I really need to go watch some of your more recent videos I've gotten off track.

Right on. I experienced everything except the extensive bruising. After 7 days in the hospital (ALT phallo) I couldn't get the pain meds for 5 [FIVE] days. 6 weeks of physical therapy, and as for pooing, It was as close to giving birth as I'll ever get. It was 35 minutes of excruciating pain. This began an almost 3 month cycle of painful BMs which caused a 1 inch tear (terribly painful) and inflammation of the hemorrhoids tissue which made things worse. It felt like pooping razor blades. I was on stool softeners the whole time. I decided to do a 7 day fast so as to poop as little and few times as possible. Once the tear healed, I was able to finally apply hemorrhoid cream and it eventually got back to normal. Other than a small common fistula that healed in only a few weeks, no complications occurred. Thank heavens!!!!

I'm not trans, but I have a suggestion for the toilet. There is a thing that goes over your toilet and raises the seat so you don't have to bend so much. I used one when I had knee surgery and it was so helpful!

I was going to make a similar point: free-standing toilet frames are available, usually for people with mobility issues, but could be helpful post-op for this procedure. You can buy them from mobility appliance providers or Amazon / Argos / Age Care UK (in the UK obvs). In the UK you *might* also be able to borrow one from social care services appliance providers via your local authority.

When I had my hysterectomy 30 years ago, they told me NOTHING. Just yanked it out, and said "Have a nice day!" I was completely on my own, had no internet at the time, and didn't even know what to ask. I'm still salty about it. The poo thing was a big deal for me, too. Lots of Milk of Magnesia, and using a squat position over a puppy pad, then dumping the poo in the toilet. Any extra wee drips went into the pad and then it could be wrapped up and thrown away. I had to figure that out all by myself.

I used to date a nurse who attended trans people at our university trans ambulatory (sorry if thats not the correct translation, it's a thing in Brazil) and we went to the first Brazilian WPATH event - World Professional Association for Transgender Health. We set down for the lectures about surgeries, and they gave every information possible about the procedure, showed pictures of every step and everything. But said nothing about anything you and others say in these videos. Keep up the good job :)

I know this video is at least a year old now, but I truly just want to say thank you, Jammi. So many people are so afraid to speak on these facts & information, & I 3,000% understand why. It’s so intimate, personal, something people struggle w/ for years, sometimes their entire lives, & since not everybody is intelligent enough or caring enough to be understanding & *mature*, it can be very scary. #8. This applies to both male to female and female to male; if you do not get a hysterectomy you could potentially atrophy. If you keep your vagina, make sure the gynecologist (yes you have to go to one) does more than a pap smear. Your body will stop producing estrogen if you are taking testosterone and that will cause problems in your vagina and that whole area which could potentially actually lead to death

Hello Jammi! Your aubergine story made me think of 2 things ... 1) a friend had exaggerated with a cockring and got a similar result ... horrible! 2) A week ago I went to dinner in Japanese restaurant (2 japanese women cook) and I discovered their "Déngaku" = Aubergine with caramelized miso sauce. It's a delight ! yet aubergines are not what I prefer. There is no relationship between these 2 memories! 😂 Only the color ! Other than that, congratulations for what you do! I had first stage RFF phalloplasty with Mr Rubin in London 5 weeks ago, I’ve been documenting on my Instagram (@alexharker) because honestly it was SO difficult to find info on lower surgery in the UK and I couldn’t find anyone who had Rubin as their surgeon until a few days before surgery. There is so much that nobody talks about, like the burning pain in your groin from the nerve hook up or how difficult it is to wear pants 😅 It’s really important to get this information out there!

Kai Ab. I wondered that too since, for cystoscopy, I've had to have catheter in for only 3 days afterwards and experienced much the same sort of untolds as Jammie described. Thank you, Jammie for discussing these matters. For me, staying asleep through the night was also difficult since you pretty much cannot shift sleeping positions without disturbing the catheter.

Hello, I'm a middle-aged cis female, here to learn more about what trans perspectives are. I have a trans cousin, f to m, that's had top surgery (partially paid for because he had breast cancer, otherwise the good old US "healthcare industry" would have made him pay all of it!). He's been debating bottom surgery, so I wanted to learn more about what his decisions would entail. I truly hope that isn't creepy or weird for me to do. I just want to learn more so I can understand his decision, one way or the other.
