I have a question, please answer. Do I have to pay to make my own copyrighted music? 1 dollar is 50 in my country. Also, if I copyrighted my music and post it on KZbin, will it get copyrighted? And if someone uses it, will they get a copyright claim?

Something that needs to be added; When registering with The US Library of Congress for copyright, you have a 5 year from creation limit to receive the *extra* protection. That would be that if you were wrongly sued over your song, the person who sued you will have to pay all court fees. This extra was put in place to protect the little guy from the infringer who has lots of money. It doesn't matter who has more money as long as you copyright within 5 years from creation to keep these rights.

If you publish a song online the release date is a proof that you are the actual copyright own. In order to have more than one proof you post the song lyrics on other websites to create more dates proof. I think another good way to make a proof for your copyright own. you can either write your song lyrics on a sheet of paper or typing paper is fine then take it to the bank to do notary. Every bank does have a "notary public" a person certified to notarize documents. it's free charge if you have a checking or saving account with their bank. All you need to do is bring your ID (driver license) with any documents that you want to have a notary. The notary person notarizes your document with his/her signature , date and seal and you also have to sign the document as well. The notary is one of the best proof for your copyright.
@cnlicnli2 жыл бұрын
Trần Ngọc Sơn wrote, “The notary is one of the best proof for your copyright” *No it’s NOT; it can be faked!* Using a notary in your country or other countries may work, *but NOT in the USA!* I can copy/steal your music and take it to my bank, where the notary will acknowledge what’s on the written paper with its signature, date, and seal. The rotary is “witnessing” the affixation of your signature (to important documents) -- *the notary is NOT authenticating the validity of the musical copyright creation.* US-based creatives help *PROVE* their copyright creation & copyright ownership claims to a US federal judge by *“timely”* registering their works with the US Copyright Office (either registered as unpublished or registered within five-years of the first-publication date), as that *STATUTORILY* grants them *“prime facie evidence” (presumptive legal proof)* of their copyright creation. Here are the legal citations to review: 17 USC § 410 (Registration of claim and issuance of certificate) & 17 USC 506(e) (False Representation [Criminal Offenses]). If songwriters/musicians register more quickly, either BEFORE the infringement begins OR registered within three-months of first-publication, they can pursue statutory damages (from $750 to $30,000 and up to $150,000 for willful copyright infringement) and attorney fees and legal costs against the infringer (at the court’s discretion). FYI: The US copyright registration system is very much a *“vetting process”* to help authenticate your copyright validity. It’s not necessarily about having a RAW or original music file or unpublished manuscript/song-recording that proves your copyright creation - a US federal judge *MUST* see your ISSUED copyright *“Certificate of Registration.”* Your Certificate will include your “effective date of registration,” the official United States government date stamp! Similarly, mailing a copy of your work back to yourself via a self-addressed-stamp envelope (SASE) has NO legal foundation in US copyright law. Here’s what the US Copyright Office writes, *“The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a ‘poor man’s copyright.’ There is NO [emphasis added] provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR REGISTRATION [emphasis added].* Source: www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#poorman *Summary: If you’re based in the US, your notarized musical work will NEITHER offer you any presumptive legal proof of your copyright authorship NOR “legal standing” to pursue copyright infringers in federal court.*

Great video, I’ve released four songs after even putting them on KZbin. I think the question on how to register once music holds up a lot of musicians from sharing their songs with the world. It’s good to know it’s not too late to get them formally registered.

PRAISE & Questions. THANK YOU for the organization of this video being concise, straightforward, bulletpointed and recapped at the end. Surprised this only has 5k views. I just subbed for the organization alone on top of the content. My questions for you now are: 1. If i wrote and am recording my first song, that makes me the independent songwriter as well as the *publisher* right. Now, do I truly need to sign up for admin publishing company? Because wouldn't that mean they, as the *publishing administrator* would take a percentage of my song royalties (that in reality will not get much traction). When I could have 100% of both royalties? 2. Clarification for the whole ending or order of operations and total of 5 next steps. First part At 7:00 mark when you say first steps or order of ops are "'register' with a PRO then a Publisher" By "Register" do you mean just initial *Signing up and make accounts with both a PRO and Admin Pub company first? 3. I thought that when you register your song with an Admin Pub Co, they register it for you at a PRO of your choice already. So I'm confused by what you mean at 7:00 then to first register with a PRO, then register with an Admin Pub Co, then register copyright, then register song with a publisher, then upload to distributor. Sorry long comment but thank you for your quality of content.
@Questary3 жыл бұрын
he didn't bother
@Hexspa7 ай бұрын
registering with a pro, a pub admin, and copyright are all separate. Once you sign up with a pub admin, you go through them for everything except copyright as far as I can tell. You have to register for a pro and pub admin separately but once they're set up you only need to work with the pub admin. since they're collecting royalties for you worldwide then they talk half of your mechanical royalties, afaik. I haven't gone through all of this yet but that's what I'm getting.

All true of course. But the most important question that an artist has to answer is, is your music any good. you have to cross these bridges once you start getting traction. Once in the public domain there is a timestamp so no real worries imo.

Would have been nice to see something about the cost involved. Just looking at putting some of my music on different services and thought “well might as well maximize what I can”. But if the cost of doing all this is going to exceed the money I would make then not sure why I would do all this.

The publishing registration is free on b.m.i. However if you plan on becoming a songwriter for a bunch of artists then you need your separate publishing company(choose a unique name for it) which costs 150 dollars and is also done with b.m.i.
