It's funny to think that some years ago I watched this video and I thought "Wow! This guy is amazing! I don't know why I haven't heard of him before. JTC should pay more attention to him" without even realizing that he is THE FOUNDER of JTC! It's great to know that the boss is a hell of a player too!

Shredders take note: - blasting away at a million miles an hour is entertaining for about 5 minutes, this kind of playing is far more memorable. If most of us could play half as well as this guy we would be happy, texture, phrasing, melody, tone - its all here and it's fantastic - Thanks Jan

It's about putting it all together. If you listen to somebody give a speech you don't want Is monotone speaking, You want inflection. Say it loud say it soft, Speed up slow down, Et cetera

I’m not a guitarist but I would sell my soul to play like this. I have Jan’s album “Guitar Heroes” Guthrie Govan guests on a few tracks as well James Graydon, Alex Hutchings, Clive Caroll and couple more guitarists love the album for all the different styles approached. I’m just the bloke who hangs around musicians, a Drummer I take this approach to playing and listening to music Close my eyes Listen with my ears Feel it with my heart. Jan Cyrka’s playing is perfect for my very simplistic approach, it has feeling to it.
@JosePineda-jn8jk Жыл бұрын
It’s crazy, but this just got recommended to me, and I am at a point in my playing, where I want to slow down and start falling back on really intricate phrasing rather than just shred solos like I used to do. This piece would be tough for me personally just because I know I’d unintentionally rush a lot of the notes.

He has a preamp built into the guitar which boosts the output signal by around four times. This has a low pass filter on it to get rid of the fizzy highs. Combined with the Boss OD-1 and the Laney, and the way he strikes the strings of course, is how he gets that tone. Hope that helps.

Insane. I remember listening to this masterpiece for the first time 15 years ago and it really blew my mind. The tone, phrasing, pinch harmonics, etc. perfect! I come back to this song al least once a week to get inspired and remind myself you don't have to play 300 notes a second but you need to make sure every note is a hit. Im pretty sure I will come back every week for the next 15 years too. Thanks Jan!

Such a fine player & sad he's been around so long & doesn't really get the credit he deserves . Such a unique & awesome feeling way to approach to using the Whammy Bar to work those notes to their fullest . Took some hard looking years ago to find a few of his 90s recordings but well worth it . A real legend more need to hear.

Jan made a decision early on to use the whammy bar for vibrato to make him sound a little different. He was inspired by David Gilmour and Hank Marvin who also use this technique. This type of vibrato pitches above and below the note. Standard vibrato pitches only above the note. It's trying to be a little less samey rather than 'relying' on this technique to get vibrato as someone mentioned earlier. We've seen Jan play a Les Paul and then he uses standard vibrato as there is no whammy.
