Just got back from a few days break in Prague. I visited Ancerl's grave in Vyserhad cemetery ....not far from the grave of Dvorak and Smetana . He was a great conductor. I was honoured to be able to attend a few of his live concerts . Loved his Shostakovich 7th and 10th, and also his Janacek Taras Bulba and Sinfonietta. Through an interpreter i spoke briefly with him after one concert. He was a lovely person.

the ending climax with organ harp and chimes etc is simply overwhelming!!! Saw this live once--a woman next to me turned to me afterwards and said, "wow!!"

Ancerl was unbeatable as a conductor of Czech music! This is a great performance of a great work by a much underrated composer!

I heard him conduct the Toronto Symphony in Dvorak's New World as a child. He died shortly afterwards. A tragic life for such a supremely talented artist.

the organ chord with the big suspension at 1:05 always brings a tear to my eye. Janacek understood how to transform musical material that existed long before him into something personal.

millor la Sinfonietta que el Taras !. Bé, cada cosa al seu temps i lloc. Sempre busquem el millor, el més bó. I aixó es bó, ja ho crec. Però el Taras potser no està tan elaborat amb les formes que s'havien d'assolir, pero melodicament es preciós, les harmonies es creuen entre elles crean un contrapunt agraït i a la vegada d'una complexitat moderna a l'epoca, bé ho dic perquè fins i tot ara sóna novedós, al menys així m'ho sembla. I, ja que tothom pot dir-hi la seva, al cap de 10 dies de la gravació del Ancerl vaig neixer jo mateix, un quatre de juny del 61. per molts anys.
