Your dad and I are about the same age. I discovered Terry Reid when I was16, at my cousin's house. He and his friends were hanging in the garage and playing the "Bang, Bang" album. Reid is one of the most under-rated musicians of my generation -- not only as a singer, but as a songwriter and all around musical "magnifico".

Lyrics Can you hear what I've been thinkin'? Do you hear my words out loud? 'Cause there's an echo that's insistent, why doesn't the phone ring out now? But when it does it rings, no question, but when it don't I wonder why, Baby got somewhere you can reach me on this dark and lonely night. Oooohhhh, what a faith to arise... yeah Feel that look in your eyes You know I'll be thinkin' we'll be bringin' that time and place in your mind, and you need a lesson to hang on too, feel what it is that's alive And you know that it's only one more day, that I'm gonna be this far away, and now I'm sitting here on this phone, I've run out of things to say... Except it's gonna feel good to get back home, how it's gonna feel good to just get back home I've been out here stretchin' on my own, Whoa, it's gonna feel good to just get back home I take a plane out in the morning puts me in tomorrow night I got something I want to say to you on the hours that I lose in this flight There's a beauty about London, though the rain's still pouring down, it only makes me thinking of breakin', so the night wakes, and breaks and shakes the ground. And oohhhh... what a faith to arise, yeah see that look in your eyes You know you'll be thinkin', you'll be singin' 'bout that time and place in your mind, the sun and you let them grow on to be what it is that's alive You know that time, she's a passer of everyday Know what it is... no one you can save Just write your name in the sky, with the curve of the earth of night. Baby it's the end of the turn, I can see the reflection in your eyes, just how it's gonna feel good to get back home Oooh it's gonna feel good just to get back home I been out here stretchin' on my own And now it's gonna feel good just to get back home

Guys like Terry Reid, Dave Van Ronk and even Sixto Rodriguez, got buried underneath the landslide that was Bob Dylan. Though Dylan appeared on the scene some years earlier, the mark he left in the business was so significant that it either paved the way for future artists, or it pushed them aside as "copycats," or as just being part of a long-line of musicians who were producing a "tired" sound. Dave Van Ronk was actually the inspiration for the film "Inside Llewyn Davis" which chronicles this issue exactly. Dave Van Ronk's album; "Folksinger" which also contains the song, "Hang me, Oh Hang Me" is one of the greatest music albums ever made and it never received the praise and attention it so rightfully deserved. And if anyone knows the story of Rodriguez (Searching For Sugar Man) and how was he buried not only by a flooded market, but by the industry as well. Well, if nothing else, the internet is great for keeping this timeless and beautiful music alive!

I have faint memories of my parents taking me on surf trips to Baja as a toddler in the early 80s and this stuff was on repeat with others like The Band, Crosby Stills, Nash & Young, etc... Went through my punk/metal phase as a teenager and all but forgot about this stuff until I watched The Devil's Rejects and there were a couple Terry Reid songs in it and the wave of memories was overwhelming. So I started searching. That's how I remember rediscovering his music. :) Great stuff.
