“Who’s not a fan of footnotes?” 😂 I couldn’t agree more. And honestly I’m happy to meet someone who feels the same way about Mansfield Park. It is still delightful but just not nearly as enjoyable as the others.

I've got to make a note of Jane Austen and the Clergy for next year's JAJ nonfiction. Also support the suggestion to read Elizabeth Inchbald's Lover's Vows. It is short and not an amazing play but adds to the Mansfield Park experience.

I’m re-reading Emma with annotations and really appreciate them. I may get the other Jane Austen novels with annotations.

I think it’s nice to set realistic goals. The reward of commit far outweighs stressing about getting to everything.

I’ve also heard that Celia’s House by DE Stevenson is a retelling of Mansfield Park. I’m reading Mansfield Park too, so my contemporary of Jane Austen read will be the play Lover’s Vows. I’m excited that you liked Manslaughter Park because I was on the fence about reading it. Now I think I will make it a priority. 😊

I'm trying to get a time scheduled with the author of Manslaughter Park to do a video for Jane Austen July - her books are so fun!

I don't think I'm going "all out" for JaneAustenJuly this year, either. Over the past couple of years, I've tried making July truly JaneAusten everything, but I have a lot of other things, so even though I'm going to choose books for all of the prompts, I'm not going to get to them all. For me, as long as I read one of her novels, I'm happy about it.- yep, I'll definitely watch that version of Pride and Prejudice. For me, Matthew Macfadyen is the best Mr. Darcy.

I love his performance so much. I was interested in first watching it because of Keira Knightley, but Macfadyen was a great surprise! One year for Victober I did read nothing but Victorian literature all month. That was fun too, but I do like to have variety in my reading.

Late to the party, but better late than never, I guess! 1:46 I just recently picked up the annotated versions of Austen’s works. They are quite nice! I’m starting with “Sense and Sensibility”, since I already read a non-annotated version of “Northanger Abbey” (which I annotated myself) during Jane Austen July. 4:40 I kind of feel like “Mansfield Park” can be boiled down to being about a girl developing her own inner strength that eventually allows her to stand up for herself and what she believes is right, even against those she loves most. It is a story of a girl who learns to stand firm by herself when former allies fail her; to be clear sighted even when it is hard, when others are blinded by their own desires. 5:11 I’m starting my Mom with “Northanger Abbey” next month, after years of cajoling, because she couldn’t stand “Emma” and refused to give Austen another chance for years. I’m so excited that I finally convinced her to try again! 9:09 Oh, I just picked up “Jane Austen and the Clergy” in July! I look forward to reading that! 16:18 I love Mr. Knightley; he is my favorite Austen hero! Thanks for a fun video!

I agree with the other comments , Lovers Vow was very good. This year I’m trying the play The School for Scandal. It sounds very amusing with characters named Lady Sneerwell, Sir Joseph Surface, Lady Candour and Sir Benjamin Backbite.

@@ArtBookshelfOdyssey it's always interesting how rereads of books can feel very different each time we pick it up. This will be my 3rd Jane Austen. I've read Emma and Northanger Abbey and want to leave P&P for last since it's most people's favorite. All is well, thank you! I haven't been inspired to record videos, but have been doing a decent amount of reading and enjoying the summer weather. ☀️

@@ellethinks great to hear - reading and enjoying summer are great things to do! I also have periods where I just don’t feel like filming so I don’t. I think booktube burnout happens when we push ourselves through those feelings. I constantly tell myself - this is supposed to be fun! And sometimes it’s fun to turn off the camera and enjoy watching other channels and reading books.

Hi, Art. I'll be reading Persuasion this year. My TBR is on Goodreads. For a JA contemporary, I highly recommend reading, or rereading, Lover's Vows by Mrs. Inchbald. This is the infamous play from MP.

OK, my main reads for July this year are Martin Chuzzlewit and Adam Bede, but I’m going to participate in JAJ for the following prompts: Prompt 1/Group Read-Sense and Sensibility (I’m going to try the Nadia May audiobook, simply because I loved her Wives and Daughters SO MUCH) Prompt 2-I’m going to reread Jane Austen’s prayers Prompt 5-I’m declaring Charles Dickens a contemporary of Jane Austen, since he was born five years before she died, so Martin Chuzzlewit fits this prompt! Prompt 6-I’m going to for SURE watch either the 2008 Sense and Sensibiltiy or the 1995 Pride and Prejudice (or both!) at some point during the month!
