Pill Box She was not a good fit for the morning show. She was very serious for one and unable to kick back and have a little fun and joke around. IT was not jealousy at all. Katie Couric came in and recued the show after Deborah left only a few months after she arrived. At that time Katie was no beauty and she maintained excellent ratings for years

+Meade Skelton Which made her dismissal/resignation/whatever seem more unfair. And, to call Jane Pauley old and ugly is a low blow: there are many attractive women who just happen to be "over the hill". Putting best before dates on people limits too many people and ends careers before their time.

This was the beginning of Jane Pauley's 13 years anchor of Today and her 27 year journey with NBC News. Jane was one of 3 beautiful blondes who anchored the network morning news shows by the early 80s (the other two were Diane Sawyer on the CBS Morning News and Joan Lunden from ABC Good Morning America).

I had such a crush on Jane back then. I just found her incredibly attractive in a girl-next-door kind of way but also funny and smart. I remember being shocked to read in People magazine shortly after this aired that she was a heavy smoker, going through 2 packs of Kools a day! I presume she quit somewhere along the way.

It could be worse. You could kill a kid while DUI, have half your brain cells fried with drugs, and shoot your wife and kids during a domestic dispute. I hate cigarettes myself, but they were still socially acceptable in Jane Pauley's youth.

Jane has this every girl quality about her, and that's made her so relatable to many viewers. And, I've heard that she has lead a private, reclusive lifestyle even at the peak of her career. And, as a fellow depressive, I also applaud her coming out as one a few years ago.
@terrihenricks4160
@terrihenricks4160 6 жыл бұрын
She didn't have connections. When Barbara Walters left the Today Show for ABC News, Jane was one of several women who were brought in as guest hosts for a few days each. In effect, they were auditioning them to be Barbara's replacement. Jane started out as the least known of the contenders, but she scored very highly in audience surveys and was eventually hired for the job.
@davanmani556
@davanmani556 5 жыл бұрын
Terri henricks I don’t know about connections or merit but Barbara knew her when she was in Chicago because in her words, she had a face that jumped. She sent notes to producers at WMAQ telling what a good job she was doing and keep it up. Barbara knew the TV writer Marilynn Preston. She wrote many columns praising Jane. Ed Planer, who was the producer at WMAQ, said that she was going to be National in three years.
