He was using custom molded In Ear Monitors, which block virtually all stage volume out. So that is an out and out lie. At his age, you cannot drink alcohol, even a little while pushing your voice, it dries out the vocal cords. At 65, you can't go and tour and act like you did in your 20's and expect to bounce back from that abuse. He was drunk and frustrated that his voice was shot, no one's fault but his own. The irony is, Dave and the band were trying to help him and he mistook the gesture and verbally attacked them then attacked Dave.

Perry has since apologized but it's too little too late. What a sad way to go out. I saw a lot of comments here saying that Perry should have talked to the sound engineer backstage, etc, etc. Yes, maybe so, however, people should take a second to ask themselves WHY he may have been low in the mix. Many fans have commented that during live shows this time around, Perry's performances have been bad. Sloppy, missed time cues, out of tune, forgetting lyrics, strained voice, slurring his words (possibly due to alcohol) etc. The working theory is that the band mates and the people in charge of running the shows turned Perry down a bit in the mix to help mask his bad performances while everyone else had to perform at their absolute a-game. I certainly can't rule out Perry's wife or any of his friends getting in his ear about the whole thing, making him angrier, and if so, that's a crappy thing to do. But Perry is an adult who should be old enough to know better than to handle things this way. It's nice that he said he takes full responsibility and all, but clearly the rest of the band has had enough now that all of the remaining dates are cancelled. Again, sad way to go out.

Who is Nother? Regardless, the sound engineer did a great thing by drowning out Perry's vocals that evening. I haven't seen much footage from the rest of that particular concert, but I expect the sound crew are exceptional at their jobs and every little thing they do is intentional and professional. Perry also is a professional, and it's very easy to focus on the bad gigs but he has spent tens of thousands of hours on stage in his life. Perry could have and should have communicated his issue with sound folks, not taken it out on Dave. Unfortunately, it looks like the frustration may have been magnified by wine consumption and not just a volume problem. Perry is a fiery dude under the best of circumstances. However, Perry does seem to be having issues with his voice. He hasn’t been able to hit those high notes for a long time often times performing crooner style vocals on many songs. You can hear him struggle to sing in practically any performance in recent years. Those high notes are inhuman from a vocal standpoint. Furthermore, even though Perry can’t sing like Perry at his height of power, no one else can either. His voice was one of the most unique in modern music. I hope Perry gets whatever help he needs. These guys will survive and honestly, Jane’s had an historic run! No shame in that body of work. Well done video here!

Let me get this straight. The band was so loud that the fans couldn't hear Perry, but HE could hear THEM complaining that it was too loud? And I've never been at a concert by a well known group where bunches of people were complaining about the volume. Heck, not even in a pub with a cover band with their volume super loud.

I'm hopeful that Jane's will come back again after a much needed break for perry, if he gets sober and treatment. They were much more volatile in the 90s when they were all junked out. Perry apologized to his bandmates on IG, and hopefully he did so in real life esp to dave. Perry has drank bottles of wine at each show for the past 30 years and has mostly been fine, so it's surprising that it escalated so quickly all of a sudden, but father time always wins. He can't pretend he's a 30 year old rockstar anymore. It's still confusing why he got so mad at dave. In one of the videos for mountain song at nyc, perry sings over one of dave's solos, so i think that's why dave was being more proactive during that song to let perry know since that song is repetitive. During the boston show when they were playing mountain song, dave went up to eric and said something, probably about perry getting lost in that song, and perry seemed annoyed that they were talking about him and started singing aggressively at dave. Dave and eric looked annoyed/concerned/nervous about perry. Also, for everyone saying eric took cheap shots at perry, that's just etty's version of the story. She wasn't there on stage. It seems to me like eric was trying to grab the mic outta perry's hand so he doesn't hit anyone with it.

You also forgot to mention ti on that perry punch Dave in the face backstage after the gig as well! I have some friends n the industry and you really should have talked to someone that works in the industry before doing this video! However, Perry doesn't have to scream to be heard, that's not how sound PAs work. He coulda just told the sound engineer to turn him up, IF he couldn't control it himself from the stage. If I had to guess, the band or management told the sound guy to keep Perry low in the mix if he was having trouble staying on key as he sometimes does.
