I've seen Janes a bunch of times. I've watched so many of thier videos. Heard so many of their songs on diffent formats... Are they always doing a different rendition everytime? I mean it would be impossible to go back and listen to and compare every time they created and played every song. Yet, I'm pretty sure each time they play a song it's different every freakin' time. Is that their true genius? In addition to all their other virtues...

According to Casey Niccoli, they rehearsed 8 hours a day almost every day for about a year in 86-87. Dedicated

That's what I love about this band. The songs are reinvented and original every time, but the integrity of the song is still in tact, which allows you to still sing along with it.

Very hard working band at the time of this recording. I remember seeing them at least 6 times within 2 months around this time so I'm sure they were playing nearly every night of the week at this time

This is around the first time I saw them in Portland. I think it was spring time 1987 or 88. Probably after this. Nothing's Shocking had just come out so it was their west coast tour. But seeing them in a bar was so sublime because the next time I saw them it was in 1990. The Pixies and Primus opened for them at the University of Portland. Then I saw them at the first Lolla too.

This bootleg is more important to me than their proper debut album. I literally wore out my cassette, it was years before I found this recording again.

absolutely! it's their entire catalog (minus one or two great songs) all slabbed together from their greatest year, 1987. Dave was still using a Les Paul Custom, Perry could hit every note and was still getting along with Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins' flying afro....
@jamiehovis7722
@jamiehovis7722 Жыл бұрын
@@LSUOdyssey I don’t think he ever really got along with eric, at best they were coworkers as they made good music together and perry recognized that-“I Would For You” was the first song they wrote together. eric was always jealous of perry because of the attention he got, his charisma (more to do with perry’s age than anything, he was five years older than eric and ten years older than steaphen and dave). I wish they kept going but Jane’s afflatus was self-destitution. People like to say heroin killed the band, what they don’t realize is they were doing heroin from the start it just stopped working and worked against them instead of inspiring them. Perhaps money killed the band if anything cause poverty forces moderation.

@@LSUOdyssey i actually hear some flats, especially on then she did. he matured as a singer later on, his peak was the 97 relapse tour. what a combination of crack, alcohol, and heroin he was on lol.

@@LSUOdyssey By 97” Perry had matured and was near pitch perfect. Where on record he was flat like on Then She Did, etc. check out the new york ballroom concert on the relapse tour, he sang Jane songs better then he did in the 80s.

I love this bootleg! I’ve been a huge fan for years and can’t believe this is my first time hearing it. I did recognize this version of “Whores” from Kettle Whistle. “No One’s Leaving” on this set is almost unrecognizable. It’s a very psychedelic version.

I disagree. I like how the music evolved. This is great too but its jam bandy. they were a better band on Ritual performance wise. Dave jerden was essentially to refining the songs.

I hear what you're saying but I know his tech and his PRS signature custom that he uses pretty much exclusively is modded out to virtually the exact specs as the LP....except it has a Trem on it...but the pick ups in the PRS have been wound to essentially match the LP. He definitely played with a ton of fire during the eerly years. He is still brilliant but they have all gotten older and dont play like tjey have anything to prove amymore. Back in the 80s early 90s...they were hungry as hell. I do know that the Marshalls he uses now are not the same ones he used back in the day either....and there certainly is a bite to the old amps that his sound doesn't have on more recent recordings. He still sounds great live but his sound is much smoother
@LSUOdyssey
@LSUOdyssey Жыл бұрын
@@warborn_inc. it doesn't sound anything like it, in terms of thickness and that chewy wall of warmth that Les Pauls give, especially Customs. But i get you, they are in spec

@@LSUOdyssey I think his amps being different plays a big role for sure. Ive seen them 16 times since 88 and honestly as a player....when Ive been in the crowd I really havent noticed a huge difference when I am in the room hearing things through front of house. I do think his overall attack was more aggressive back then as well. You know the deal man....one night you can sound amazing....then play through the exact same rig the next night....and it sounds like youre playing though a totally different rig. Lots of little variables.

@@warborn_inc. i love Jane's addiction no matter what era, just something about a Les Paul in this band hahah. What ever happened to that old Les Paul Custom? There's footage of Perry slamming it down on a stage in Detroit 1988, around the same time Navarro stops using it.

Tom, my friend and I recently made a pilgrimage to your club. We visited what was the Pyramid Club, and stood in the parking lot, in awe of what transpired inside your business the night of November 13th, 1986. One of the rawest, wildest rock & roll recordings of all time captured by your soundboard, your 'stadium sound system' must have sounded magnificent that night, blowing the collective minds of the assembled crowd, and the recording from this night has been played thousands and thousands of times in bedrooms all over the world. Thank you sir for making this happen! Much respect, Kevin from SF

That reminds me of how I would picture being at led Zeppelin In 73 like my mom was! Speaking from experience I only saw Jane's play live twice both times in 91 first time small club in Akron second time Cleveland first lollapalooza. The small show in Akron was awesome not very crowded and Perry was an absolute animal on stage! The definition of artistic freedom and I don't know decadence, drugs rock and roll etc
