I want to give a shout-out to the camera person and art director. I watched Janelle's performance twice and it was excellent. The director set up the mood perfectly. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I had to check if this segment WAS the official music video. The REAL music video, by comparison, was old-fashioned 1980s-style soft-core porn done right, reminding me of Robert Palmer's music videos like "Addicted to Love" and "Simply Irresistible".

Queen Janelle's an artistic genius. She elevates everything that she does. It's so exhilarating watching her perform. 🙌🏽

It was like Janelle Monae’s parents had a baby and it was...Janelle Monae. And SHE makes amazing art with her collaborators and team and certainly learned a lot from her mentors, but I’ve had enough of this “she’s the female this or that or if two artists had a baby it’d be her”. She has been doing her own freaky Janelle thing for quite a little while and I think it’s time she gets the credit for her art instead of those whose styles may have inspired it. She-if I’d compare her with any artist of times past that are familiar to me-reminds me of Kate Bush, or Jean-Pierre Melville, or Mary Shelly. Someone who will not get in line and must be themselves. Often overlooked in their time as eccentric or even just ignored, they never stop rolling out gold in new shapes and forms regardless of the response as if they are their own audience. XO

I think she's underrated because sometimes she concentrates too much on trying to send a message or make a point with her music. I think it turns some people off or away from her style of music. Most folks just want to party or chill out to the sound of the artist vocals or music without getting into some heavy shit. She's a very beautiful young woman with mad talent and skills I would love to see her in more movies and mainstream music.
@ZephyrFate2 жыл бұрын
