Man. Understand how big this was....... You have a JACKSON, performing with basically - THE TIME. Janet came outta NOWHERE with Control...and she hit like an explosion....It was awesome to see her go from little Penny ...to a SUPERSTAR in real-time....

You are so right! NO ONE expected this from little Janet, then BAM, she lit the world on fire! Female acts weren't doing this level of dance/choreography back then, where she was as good if not better than trained dancers, in lock-step with them. It's commonplace now, but she was one of the first female artists to kick it off at this level, with that sass, and looking great!

I just noticed during the breakdown of "You oughta be thankful for the little things (wait-a-minute)..." Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Jerome are all on point with their choreography behind Janet. What act ever performed like this along with their producers? NO ONE! This performance has stood the test of time and is better than any Grammy performance I've seen in the last ten years or so.

I remember watching and taping this, rewatching it many times over. I loved how they changed the arrangement on the record and made it funkier. Janet, Jam and Lewis, what a team!

LOVE THIS but the scratchy audio quality (to be expected for 1987 footage today I guess) makes me feel ancient! Also I love the vintage colorful YAMAHA instruments seen here!

I remember watching this that night, I was pissed when that song Graceland won. I still remember how Whoopi was happy for that mess. She was robbed! The biggest memory I remember is the next day at school everyone talking about those black guess jeans she was rocking LOL!
