Does anyone realize how hard it was to establish a successful solo career back then, when all anyone could talk about was her brother Michael?! Yet, despite having to compete with other megastars/mega talents like Madonna, Whitney Houston, Prince, and her own brother, Michael Jackson...Janet still managed to become the QUEEN OF POP!! JANET IS A STRAIGHT UP BEAST! AND A TRUE ICON 💯
@curtislyons21403 жыл бұрын
Yup and in the audience while Madonna and Whitney watched that night they were low key impressed and pressed at the same time. Janet got massive love that night.

It was not that hard for her. Her family was already famous. She was given t.v. roles and a record deal strictly based on her last name. Her first 2 albums did not sell, any other artist would have been dropped. Janet had the privilege of years of perfecting her craft before the release of Control. There were no starving artist years for her, everything was given to her. With that said, she did actually work very hard in the dance studio and on her art. This performance is ICONIC!

People don’t realize that prior to Janet and Madonna, solo female recording artists weren’t really seen as powerhouses in the music industry. They might have a single or two from an album, but they weren’t selling out stadiums and arenas as singular, solo artists. Donna Summer paved a way, but M and Miss J blew those doors right off their hinges. I remember this night and having high school friends all calling each other right afterwards because just like everyone in that audience, we all lost our goddamn minds over this performance and those moves. I mean, 1:53 like, WHAT?! This was the night that move was introduced. This was electric from beginning to end. Barry Lather killed it with this choreography and Janet sold and served it HOT. F*ing ICONIC
@craiggie16285 ай бұрын
I think Madonna and Janet Jackson definitely made an impact in mainstream dance pop, and helped developed and solidify that genre (after disco). There were also other significant female pop stars at the same time in slightly different genres who were setting new highs: Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, and Stevie Nicks in rock pop; Whitney Houston in adult contemporary and R&B; Kate Bush in alternative pop; Cyndi Lauper and Belinda Carlisle in pop; and more.

It got so bad that security turned away at least 200 people ,and wouldn't let any one else in. I refused to go home!! I stuck around about an hour or so, then security let me in . I was bummed out because I had just missed this performance😭😭😭😭 Because I was a seat filler , I got to sit near the stage close to Joe and Katherine. At the end of the show, Janet walked down the steps right by me to meet with her mother. She still had on her black outfit she had on in this video! I got my chance to meet her, and had an out of body experience! She was very sweet and soft spoken. Katherine very gracious.. Joe ..well...that was a different story!!! 😂 I wanted to see this performance so bad, but at least I got to meet my crush , and my queen...Janet Jackson!!!❤❤❤❤😁😁😁
