"It's Janet. Ms. Jackson if you're nasty" is one of the most iconic lines in pop history. No doubt about it.

***MISS JANET TRIVIA TIME!*** ...Ooooooh! (5:07) ...let's get TO it....if you're NASTY... ; ) (CONT.) - "Nasty" is probably Janet's *MOST* influential tune; ...Pop audiences NEVER knew, " 'round the way Girl" lingo & attitude, until THIS Song...Jody Watley, Cherrelle, Karyn White, etc., ALL started bringin' AT-TIT-TUDE, after this Song; It also set the template for "New Jack Swing", for the Guys to be influenced by, in 1987 / 1988 (Bobby, Al B., Keith, etc.) .. ...The tune was originally going to be given to R&B Singer Sharon Bryant (formerly of Atlantic Starr); she turned it down thinking it was 'too street' for her to sing... Janet was THE PERFECT GIRL, to put this tune over, to the general public.... - ...sassy, street-wise, FULL of attitude, & "Club" ready (...the 2-part "Cool Summer Mix", was Janet's FIRST real 're-mix', giving her a dance / Club audience), the Video (& choreography by Paula (5:49), was ICONIC, and set Janet OFF on the Pop charts, where she peaked at #3, July of 1986...take a peek.... 10. Love Touch - Rod Stewart 9. Your Wildest Dreams - Moody Blues 8. The Glory Of Love (from, "Karate Kid 2") - Peter Cetera 7. There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry) - Billy Ocean 6. Who's Johnny? (from "Short Circuit 2") - El DeBarge 5. Holding Back The Years - Simply Red 4. Danger Zone (from "Top Gun") - Kenny Loggins 3. ***Nasty*** - Janet Jackson 2. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel 1.Invisible Touch - Genesis ...."Miss Jackson" made us ALL 'NASTY'....and, I'll ALWAYS Thank her for that.....a VERY, VERY, VERY influential Song.....(5:06)...

If ''What Have You Done For Me Lately'' was her breakthrought, with this song, the public started to have a idea has a artist. Also this song was so influencal, if you hear, in fact, this song was the prelude of the born of the ''New Jack Swing sub-genre, like with ''Bobby Brown'' later he adopted after his second album. Also, this song was sonically the prelude of the ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' album. Later she explained that this song was born after a day who in a street of Minnopeolis , while she walking in the streets to recording her songs, before entering in the studios, many nasty boys of the street trying to attacking her and she defending physically to protect herself. She wrote that song inspired by the event before entering in the studios. She easy first with her natural voice, but she didn't take any impact of personnality, so she singing in a lower register instead in a another take and that was the take she used for the final product. I like very well this album, it's have so much good songs and all the six singles was very good. ''Control'' have six singles (six of the nine songs of the album), the first five singles reaching the top 5 in Bilboard Hot 100: ''What Have You Done For Me Lately'': n.4 in april 1986 ''Nasty'': n.3 in july 1986 ''When i Think of You'': n.1 for two weeks in october 1986 ''Control'': n.5 in january 1987 ''Let's Wait Awhile'': n.2: in april 1987 ''The Pleasure Principale'': n.14 in august 1987

She sang "I'm not a prude. I just want some respect. So close the door if you want me to respond. Cuz privacy is my middle name. My last name is control. No, my first name ain't baby. It's Janet. Miss Jackson if you're nasty."

I'm so loving your Janet journey! I think that she is as equally talented as Michael, but because of misogyny and racism, history has not been as kind to her as they were to her equally amazing brother. She was so untouchable in these days, and that Paula Abdul choreography is perfection. Her dancing is so technically flawless! Side note, the guy with the long hair who gets in the car with her is an old friend of mine (well, we worked together dancing in theater when I was 24-25 and he was 43-ish), and he is an absolute DOLL. Like one of those great humans who has nothing bad to say about anyone. I still send him and his husband messages wishing them well, cuz they were so kind to me when I was young. This song was an absolute game-changer and she DID THAT.

I've been saying this for years when men would hit on me and call me baby, then ask my name, I'd say> "My name is Barbara Ms. Roberts if you're nasty" and some of them would know Janet's song "Nasty" and they would laugh, others would say "Huh"??.. and I'd smile and walk away.😎😋

This was her come out album. Before this she did an album that was released while she was still on the TV show fame, where she played a shy girl. This album was produced mostly by the legendary Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of " The Time". Great album. Her song " Let's wait awhile", is still played often.

So glad you finally got to this one!Janet came up with the idea for this song because some dudes were cat calling and trying to holla at her while out with a friend . I was born in '78, and when I was in 4th grade there was a talent show. Every class had auditions and the winners from each class performed at the show. I auditioned with my two best friends as my backup singers/dancers. We performed Laura Branigan's version of The Name Game. I thought we did great, but then my classmate got up and did a routine to Nasty, with a bunch of dope choreography and flips and stuff, and she won the spot for the class. Then the talent show came, and during her performance she didn't do as many flips or whatever, and a bunch of our classmates said they were disappointed. Then I had my birthday party, and we performed our routine again and everyone said we should have won, of course. Lol I grew up always wishing I had the chance to perform in this talent show, but even still, I grew up loving Janet and this song. I later found out in my 30s that my classmate sadly, died young, and that made me feel glad she won that spot and got to perform in front of everyone. As great as this song is, its role in my life always makes me feel bittersweet, sad, nostalgic, regretful, grateful, introspective. . . many thoughts and feelings you wouldn't expect from a song about guys being horny. Lol 😢😂😭😜💙
