I think the 2010 Clone Wars version kind of splits the difference between the two shown here. Better size than the new. Better build that the old with the newer steering mechanism. The middle one has better wheels, better add on features. It has some studs inside. Fewer than the old but more than the new. The only major difference is the 2010 CW one lacks the spotting tower on top.

I really like the look of the new one better because of a higher level of detail and the gaps are significantly smaller. The '06 one may have an edge on presence, but the '16 one no doubt has an edge in detail, which is what I look for in my sets the most since I like to display them.

I'm a sucker for scale things that are too little just look too comical even for display purposes, sure it can last longer for play but they look silly. another example the 501st At Rt just too big , almost as big as the latest At St (bunker) both terribly out of scale even when their builds are solid and durable. hope this year's At St is correctly scaled . part of the reason I don't own any At At and prefer Cavegod's UCS build

Since I keep my minifigures in a separate display, accurately scaled sets aren't a major concern for me. That isn't to say I don't welcome them (though I do have a few on display that I quite like). As long as they look reasonably proportioned and have high enough detail, I'm willing to buy and display them, even if they are greatly out of scale (like in the case of this set).

I think your summary at the end of the difference between the two is spot on. LEGO is certainly more detailed in recent years, but that density and concentration of pieces is coming at the expense of the “amount of stuff” factor. And there does seem to be less importance on play area and expandability, as represented by the interior section being wide open and ready to fill in the 06 but the 16 being totally useless for play.

I remember my friend receiving this for his birthday in 2005 while we were in 4th grade. After seeing the commercial for this thing one of us had to have it, and we weren't disappointed. Although I think Lego is a little better today than it was in my childhood, the philosophy of Lego at the time I was a kid fit perfectly; big uncomplicated bulky builds that let you recreate a scene with usually two to three alternative builds on the back.

Maybe its bigger, but I do feel the new one is more defined. Maybe they should have added the bulkier part below. Maybe add more presence to the cabin. But apart from that, the 2006 is much more simplistic in terms of detail. But I do understand the other is...well, bigger, and has more pieces. But remember, the detail always costs more, even with the little minifigures.

I feel back in the day (in general there are exceptions to this rule) lego star wars sets were designed primarily for play with display as the second priority and nowadays its reversed so sets are designed from a display first play second perspective. For me this is perfect because I originally had lego star wars in 1999 and got back into it a few years ago as an adult and I definitely like the direction they took with a lot of the builds.

The older version's cockpit has a feature that allows the driver's seat to rise up. That's why there's only a 4x4 piece that can move on the roof. When you open the front piece, push upwards on the pilot's seat and you'll notice it.

The only items LEGO makes at their factories in Asia presently are mystery bag figures and high-volume promotional items. Standard parts used in boxed sets are all made in Denmark, Hungary, and Mexico. They also made it clear that their newest factory being built in China will supply parts for sale in the Asian market only. Many parts have been redesigned over the past decade or so to be very significantly stronger and in some cases more useful. I've seen no instances of LEGO part quality decreasing, but many of quality measurably and unmistakably increasing.

I own all three Turbo Tanks that came out over the years and i am pretty impressed about the newest Version although it is much smaller. But concerning Details and Proportions, it is clearly #1 in my opinion.

While I agree that bigger isn't always better, the 2016 CTT definitely lacks size. It's a Turbo Tank, its massive size is a defining trademark of the thing. Also, there isn't a whole lot to do with the 2016 one. I had so much fun with the 2005 version when I was younger. It had tons of features and space for minifigs, and even as an impatient kid I would much prefer that over a sturdy build.

I think that the 2006 tank really suffers from the blockiness, awkward proportions, and low detail of older Lego Star Wars sets. You mentioned modifying the 2006 tank to hold troops, but if you have a few spare plates you could take off the tiles and cover up the hole in the 2016 model. It is not as simple or convenient, and it still looks worse and has less space, but it is something.

well. you chose chose quantity over quality. you get more with figures and size, but every thing falls off a lot. its uglier, and the figures look outdated. not to mention how much easier to play with the newnone is, and it IS a toy. so I do personally think the new one is better..only loses in size, even then the old one was not bigger on purpose, just the low build quality needed to be covered up and reinforced. you can have your opinion, but that's mine.

Just a few quick things, 1, you forgot to show the seat in the front elevating up, 2, I think that the minifigures from the OG are significantly especially the light up mace windu. And finally I only have the 2006, and I want both the other ones desperately but my favorite is the 2006, I have had this set for almost 7 years! That's half of my life. But out of the 2016 and the 2010, I prefer the 2016 due to the increased accuracy to the movie as compared to the 2006. I still love the 2010, but the clone wars one was never my style.

Well, my opinion is that the 2016 version has far more detail rather than 2006 whilst the 2006 is a little more taller and bigger than the 2016 which is more movie-accurate. But if you would rather more details and a little neater then go with 2016 version but if you want a far bigger and simple clone tank, get the 2006 one.

I wouldn't exactly call the kashyyyk troopers analogous, getting a kashyyyk trooper back in 2006 was a big deal, especially since that was and still is an exclusive figure, where as the new trooper has come in multiple sets including battle packs. There is no guns at the back on the real thing in the film apart from the turret. I would say the new one is better. You can always customize the view point to look better. The new one looks better
