One of the greatest blues singers that ever was! She was right up there with the greats like Bessie Smith! I adore this woman and every time I hear her sing, it’s always like the first time I heard her voice; filled with amazement and wonder!

I believe this is from Monterey Pop Festival in Monterey CA 1967. That was Janis' coming out party, her intro to a big audience. Jimi Hendrix was at the same event for his first broad exposure to a US audience. Jimi and The Who appeared back to back. The WHO tore up the stage during their show, so Jimi had to top it. He burned his strat as a finale.

Janis wore her soul like a blanket trying to protect her from pain, hurt, anger, & even love! This woman was one of a kind, & sadly missed by everyone who loved & understood her music ❤️ 💚 💙 She truly was a gift that was only with us for a short time, but what a glorious time it was!!! Thank you both, for such a thoughtful reaction ❤️ 💚 💙

Love Janis .. Her sound was a mixed bag .. Angelic, raw, dirty, raspy, vibrato. Powerful strong and soft tones perfectly placed each and every time. YES!! .. CHECK OUT MORE OF ANY SINGER/GROUP's STUDIO VERSIONS BEFORE the LIVE ONES. Sometimes the LIVE cuts do not stand up to their studio versions.

The ball and chain in Janice' life was depression, possibly undiagnosed and untreated. This pain Janice self-medicated. It took her life. Also, the screaming, while great for getting out anger and pain, would have ruined Janice' voice in a few short years. I loved Janice and Big Brother And The Holding Company.
@nancyscottartprojects78483 жыл бұрын
The lyrics of any one song is not important. What is the story here, was the pain society put on a young girl and what you hear is that loneliness and rejection by men and kids in school that she was scarred by.
